Looking for new deer rifle

I am starting to look for another big game rifle to add to my collection. Right now I have a Winchester 30-30, a S&W 308 and an 8mm. What would be a good compliment to my collection. I will mostly be hunting in TN or WI. May want to go out west or Canada in a couple of years to do some hunting. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Think

You have a great deer hunting rifle collection already so you obviously don't "need" another but you do "want" another one. Thumbs up If it was just for deer hunting maybe a 270, 6.5x55, or 7mm rem may be options. If you are going to hunt bigger critters maybe a 338 win or 45-70 is an option although the 8mm is no pussy cat for the bigger game either.

Assuming your 8mm is actually an 8x57 (mauser type) and not an 8mm magnum, you might want to look into something along the lines of a .270 win, 280 rem, the trusty and reliable 30.06 or even a short magnum like the 270 wsm, 7mm wsm or a 300 wsm. Either way, with the exception of the biggest bears, any of these calibers is gonna get the job done.

Your from Tenn. and what I'd do is a 243 Win. You pretty much got everything covered, except varmits. I understand you got a lot of coyotes there and you can hunt them year round. Great practice and a lot of fun. With proper bullets it'll also work great on deer. If you want a bit more, the 25-06 would be hard to beat with what you have now.

Either a good .25-06 Rem or a good .270 Win.

Smaller or bigger??

25-06, or my fav 25 cal the 257 Roberts. Or 27 cal, 7mm-08 or 270.

Other side of the coin a 300 Win Mag or a 338 Win Mag (stick with the belted magnums they are time tested!)

Thanks for all the input. I will start researching the different calibers to see which one I like. I do want something that is versatile and works well on most big game.

All good choices suggested but I'm suggesting two things. 270 Win and Reloading gear. With that you can duplicate almost all commercial loads in the 130- 150 gr bullet weights and have velocities and energies increased by about 20-25 % over factory 270 loads.
Just something for your consideration Think Think Think

That is a good idea Hammer1. I never really thought about reloading my own. May have to research that on top of everything else Thumbs up

I am sort of in a similar situation. I have what I need, so I am kind of in the "want" mode. I just cannot decide. I am thinking of going the "big bore" route. Got my caliber selection down to 375, 405, 458 or maybe a black powder cartridge rifle in 45-120.

Decisions, decisions!!!
