Looking for information from experienced hunters

I grew up in eastern kentucky along the west virginia border. I've seen plenty of deer both dead and alive. While I'm not much of a hunter we did keep a garden and deer were always a menace to it, as well as having two cousins that are avid hunters.

I now live in Hebron kentucky, just a little ways south west of Cincinatti Ohio. This morning when I was letting my dog out for his morning business I looked down the hill that's covered in medium brush and saw what I thought was a black deer that stood very close to 10 feet tall including it's rack, which looked to be at least a 12 point rack.

When I say over 10 feet tall I mean it. It was standing next to a generator housing and after it and another completely black deer ran off in the same general direction I walked down the hill and measured myself against the housing. I'm about 6'3" in shoes, and where I stood against the generator housing would have come up to where the neck muscles and chest muscles on the deer meet, give or take half a foot or so.

I've never laid eyes on a deer that big, and I've never in my life seen a mostly black deer with some white markings around it's hind end and tail.

Any of you more experienced Ohio River Valley hunters know what I saw this morning?

Elk have been reintroduced in Kentucky, and doing well. Though I have not seen any of the elk in Kentucky, I doubt that they are black. The elk in the western states are much darker than deer and of course much larger, but not 10 feet tall. I'm guessing you may have seen some elk.

Maybe its a seriously displaced moose??? Think

Can you get a photo and post it here? We'd love to see this critter. Yes

I agree I think you might have been seeing a elk was it close to dark or bright daylight?
