Looking for a Checklist of Items Needed for Pronghorn Hunt?

Well, I am beginning to get things together for my hunt in September and was wondering if you folks know of a list out there or if you have one yourself. So far, I have rifle, ammo, bipod sticks, binos, camera, range finder, backpack, hydration pouch, protien bars, first aid kit (which included snake bite kit) cloths, knives, etc.... i am still adding things but if there is something you think is a must have by all means add it here.....

Bring a couple flashlights and extra batteries. Even if you plan to be back before sunset, you just never can be sure, because things happen. I've had a few unexpected instances where a mini maglite really came in handy for safety at night, especially in areas that have coulees, canyons, and sharp drop-offs. Pack something like a 2 D or C cell flashlight and another AA cell mini maglite or equivelent. Keep the larger light in your pack. I've gotten into the habit of keeping a AA mini maglite on my belt when ever I'm in the outdoors. I really like maglites new AA LED version, it stays much brighter longer and gives out nearly as much light as most 2 D cell lights do. Don't forget toilet paper. If it's September, don't forget bug repellent, or those flys will be all over ya.

Western Hunter,

Thanks for the extra tidbits.... I always carry a AA mini mag light on my belt and I also have a Pezel LED headlamp that shines for 80 hours. A nice little headlamp..... Ah, the wonderful toilet paper, I always keep a roll in my hunt truck and extra stashed either in my shirt pocket or my fanny pack butt Big smile I will make sure I have a least half a roll in my backpack.... I always carry a bug repellent in my hunt truck but I am glad you mentioned it because I have to get a new bottle. THANKS!

Keep 'em comin' ! If you can think of anything else that you wish you would have had on that last Western hunt....but didn't please add it here......YH

I saw a pair of knee pads on Cabela's that I am going to purchase. If you have to do a stalk the last part will be on your hands and knees and that sage brush and rocks are hard on the knees.

CVC,

Hey, there is a reason why a lot of our guys and women in special ops and tactical teams wear knee pads....great idea! I am definitely going to find those on the Cabela's website. Considering I wear a pair of knee pads about every day in my current job, I should understand their benefits and why I didn't think of that.....DUH!!! YH

I thought of one more thing, well actually 2 more things. How about a compass and a packable thermal blanket? I will probably still take my GPS but a compass is always a good backup. Strange things can happen and spending a night out on the prairy should would be better with a blanket considering temps tend to drop in the higher eleveations....

I pack a compass and a blanket too. Never know when you might need it.
