My husband's life-long dream has been to hunt mountain goat. As I don't know too much about this type of hunt, can anyone recommend anything to me? Where is the best, affordable place to go? Where can he be guarenteed a goat? What type of preparation does he need to do?
1) there ain't no quaranteed Goat hunts.
2) he best get in real good shape-about one of toughest hunts around
3) there ain't no cheap goat hunts.
Hunts in BC and AK are only places i know where a person can buy tags over the counter--but in both places non res must use a Guide- last time i looked cost was $6000 minimum- might be some cheaper but for goats you want a good outfit.
4) one contact would be Muskeg outfitters in South East ,AK-They seem to know their business and give value for dollar spent.
Cabela's offers a AK hunt for around $4500, but there's no guarantee.
With a few exceptions, It is pretty much impossible for a good reputable outfitter to guarantee any real hunt, and goat would certainly not be one of the few exceptions.
Of the outfitters I know and have booked for, all are in BC and all are well over $6000 US.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Thanks for your input, Windux. I've come to realize that this may not be the gift to give him.
Maybe he can pick up aluminum cans on the side of the road. This way he can make money and get into shape for the hunt.
I'll look into Muskeg Outfitters and see if they have something for when he can go.
