RMulhern, there's a good chance that Hathcock is a kid just starting out in hunting and shooting. We are a family website and encourage kids to participate.

It would behoove us all to pick and choose our words more carefully when posting. No reason to belittle. You can get your point across without insulting.

Mr Mulhern,

While I appreciate your input in these shooting matter's and understand where your comming from I also know that it is not necessary to insult the intelligence of anyone on this site. That there are some not as well schooled in shooting as yourself, I believe most are reasonable and can understand position's without being insulted. Your attack was unwarrented and totally out of line! Do you look down your nose at everyone like that? I have a hard time understanding why some people that appear to have so much to offer prefer to instead to offer contempt for other's they claim to be less well schooled. I find myself suddenly unimpressed with anything you've written here, a fact I'm also certain you don't care about.

I can direct you to several other site's that do tolerate your manner of replying to post's you don't except personnely. Having your own range, a nice reloading set up and a SUPPOSED ability to shoot at long range does not give you the right to insult ANY member here! Neither does SUGGESTING to having been friends with Carlos Hathcock! You must be a lonely man!!!!!!!!!! I know you might not believe this but, the member's here have not been sitting up night's awaiting your arrival.

And this is about as upset as I ever get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON

Dear Don

Tonight I'm going to twist and turn every bit of about 2 seconds before I drop off to sleep....your comment worries me so much! Let me digress again! I made a comment regarding this post.....I won't retract it......and if members became upset......bout the only thing i can say is.....get over it! I'm quite certain I'm not the FIRST to maybe make a post that has upset members here.....so .....what you can do is......why don't you complain to the owner of this forum and possibly he/she will see fit to kick my hinney off! As for being a so-called 'family forum'.......maybe your family needs to consider posting as one of the requirements for coming to this site.....is that you must agree with everything being said and or stated and be very careful not to upset members whom are not accustomed to being exposed to the realities of the world!! It appears to me that to be able to 'survive' here one must take an oath of 'political correctness' such that to remain.....I would have to tread very lightly as if I were walking on a minefild of C4 so I would not upset the 'baby boomers' here!

Oh....and as for my comment regarding 'my friend Hathcock'.......Carlos Hathcock was on the USMC rifle team....and I was on the US Army Rifle team in those same years; we shot side by side as a matter of fact at Camp Perry!! And as for being 'alone'.....no....I've got plenty to keep me busy beside coming to this site maybe twice a day! Real shame....you boys are so tender-footed!

I've had my say!!

RH...There is a difference in being firm on a point and being politicly correct to being downright rude!! The lil kindergarden crack and such. All we asked was for you to tone it down with the insulting nature of your comments...The poster ,while completely wrong in his belief of LD shooting, Did not deserve to be belittled. Its that simple...

Thanks

There is nothing "absolute fact" about calling someone a kindergartener.

I was at the "Baer's" truck stop in Great Falls, Mont when "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" was filmed there. Clint Eastwood said "hi" to me. We are old friends!
And you have a nice night, adversity, contempt and belittlement are lousy teaching aid's!

What a coincidence! I lived in Des Moines, Iowa when Clint was filming "The Bridges of Madison County" nearby. I saw him at a country club and waved. He didn't wave back, but I still feel like we had a real connection and now I'm quite sure that we are "best buds!"

Gentlemen, we are off the original topic so let's try to get back on track without getting personal. I like a good clean debate as well as the next person so I do not wish to lock this topic up. In fairness to the original poster, we all have an obligation to inform him/her of the issues we have with LR hunting/shooting based on our own experience. I, too, have a strong opinion on this subject that most of you know by now but I have choosen to refrain from stating it. Some mountains are not for dying on. Let's all take five minutes to catch a breath and cool off and try to give the original poster the best info. we can whether we agree or not. Please state your stand on the issue and educate us with your personal experience as to why you feel this way. We will all walk away better for it.

Amazing, hatchcock just asked about taking "longer shots" with no mention of how "long" long really is. Long could be 400 yards... but apparently everybody just filled in the blank with what "long" meant to them.

If recoil is the issue, perhaps just putting a muzzle brake on your gun(s) will effectively solve the recoil problem.
