long island hunting

I'm looking for 2 more guys to go hunting with on state land in Long Island. I am a first year bow hunter and have lots to learn if someone is willing to teach. My father can't pull his bow back (He lost 250lbs and has a bad shoulder injury this year) so i'm off by myself. I'm not looking for anyone to hold my hand as much as someone to show me what to look for as far as tree stand placement for archery.

i've got some good info from the Stony Brook DEC agents as to where most o the deer that have been checked in have been taken from. If you are a safe hnuter looking for another person for weekend and maybe a week day hunt pm me and I'll be sure to reply.

Just an FYI I was brought up to be responsible and hunt ethically. I won't take a shot if it is questionable and I've been rifle hunting since I was 7 (under my fathers supervision). It's odd not having him out there this year and I keep second guessing myself. You can also reach me at markanthony_1432@yahoo.com

Nice buck! I was hoping with the southern zones opening LI would have less pressure from local hunters. What amazes me is the amount of people who live on LI who travel upstate to hunt. Isn't there a higher concentration of deer on LI?

I could be misinformed I guess.

I believe that you are right that there are more deer on Li, I believe better quality bucks also. I am one of those guys that travel up state to hunt. I hunt state land, pieces from 800 acres to 5000 acres. Park on the side of the road and walk in. The woods are nicer and less rules. I could walk into the woods an hour before light and set up. Don't have to worry about DEC writing parking violations. But I will be back to hunt Sunday afternoon on LI.

Went up state Fri & Sat first day hunted grouse and scouted for deer. Flushed 5 grouse one shot/miss. Sat deer hunted, I saw nothing, my son had a spike at 10 yards and passed on the shot. He also saw 2 doe from a distance. Lots of turkey but no shots. Sunday on Li to tired to hunt. I'm free Fri, Sat, and Sun. Looking forward to it.

LI sportsman... You heading out Saturday / Sunday? Which place you going to? I'm thinking of either hitting up Rocky Point or Barcelona neck myself.

Great weekend; my buddy just bought 90 ac. in Edmeston 30 min. north of Oneonta. We 've been scouting the property for a few weeks: we saw close to 15 deer between both of us Saturday mostly does 1 nice 8 pointer (out of my shooting range)and few smaller bucks........so Sunday after 2 button bucks and 6 does I decided to take a mature doe walking on her own. My buddy an older spike....it was cold 29 degrees Sunday morning.......lots of deer moving in a great piece of property surrounde by a dairy farm and corn on to sides........Can't wait to get back up there. I'll be out Wed afternoon OTIS PIKE!
