Prior to Nov.1st you do need a land use permit. Easy to get and free. You have to go to DEC at Stony Brook tell them what you want fill out one easy piece of paper, check off as many boxes as you need, they will give you a temporary until yours comes in the mail. You will receive two pieces of paper one you keep with you( Land Use) the other is a parking permit ( must be displayed on dashboard of parked vehicle. Of course you still need all of the usual hunting tags, license, and back tag. BUT..........the permit I mentioned is only needed if hunting state lands in suffolk county. Suffolk seems to make things difficult. This year I may hunt during the January gun season. Talk about jumping through hoops, I still may give it a try.

LI Sportsman GOODLUCK!!

I went out today at the rocky point area.. went for the am. My first year bow hunting and much help needed. I been to rocky point for day trips 4 times already, and ive seen 3 does on one of the days at a really far far distance. Everything is very THICK out on the rocky point. im sort of disapointed, i wish i could see a doe or buck close, just seems im picking crappy spots. I find NO sign anywhere. no poop, no rubs, no nothing. those 3 doe i saw happend to be running across a field on my way into the woods, still dark out. i hope it just gets better from here on in, i do enjoy being in the woods, but it would make things 1000 better if i saw a deer or two near me on stand or ground. im very stricts about scent control and all the stuff, im getting frustrated. ill hang in there.
goodluck mr LI Sportsman to you and your son. i hope you two bag some deer. show some pics!!

HEY ITS EARLY: BUT THERE OUT THERE!

rulzu:

Its to early to complain about not seeing deer......there out there; Got out this afternoon; a bit warm but caught a glimpse of 4 pointer and about six does. Mind me asking where in Rocky Point you've been hunting? No frustration..hunt smart and watch the weather!
