long island hunting

cazadorgallego where in cairo and durham are you hunting? I hunt both of those areas real hard and i have also noticed the numbers are way down this year. Saw alot of deer before the season but once the season started didnt really see that many deer at all. We did pretty good this year considering with a four 8s and two 6's in durham but besides that havent seen much. I really think the coyotes are doing alot of damage to the heard in that area. you cant go out and not hear or see coyotes on a daily basis. This year we are going to hunt coyotes real hard during the winter and hopefully we will take a few down. Good luck to all who will be going out for the last few weeks of the season.

Hey MBucks
I have a friend up there who has property on canniff rd & rt 32 in Cairo
I agree about the coyotes but luck for them I haven't seen any yet.
Sound s like you made out good already, I'll be going back and still hoping to see something other than a spike. There is also a bad breed of bucks there, they stay small and even a six ptr is nothing compare to one from Long Island.

Gotta hunt LI more..Good Luck!

I know exactly where that is. My house is about 2 min away from there in cairo. There are some big bucks there but once hunting season comes its hard to find them. You know where the big fields are on white farm loop? i know there are a ton of deer in those fields at night including some nice bucks. The deer from behind my house always wind up over there during the season. Must be someting in those fields that they like to eat. I know they have bigger racks out on long island but i have seen some real nice bucks up there right out my kitchen window ill try to post some pics. I know of someone who shot a nice 12 point that i saw down on the freehold flatts over the summer in those fields i am talking about. it was a mainframe with split browtines. Those deer in that area really travel alot.

Hey John,
I know the fields , that's where I look for them at night also, I heard this a lady took a 12 ptr there a week ago. Hard to believe that I hunt on the other side of the road and see nothing.
I'm not going this weekend but hope to be up the following which is closing already, if you're in the area stop by canniff rd around noon, we usually have a tailgate party.

New to the Forum

Greetings everybody!

I'm a 31 yo Swedish guy that lived in NY on and off since Summer 2005.

Currently Living in Huntington..

I am from a Hunting family back home and truly have it in my blood (we have rock-carvings depicting hunts in my province back home that are dated 8-10 000 years old!!), but since Bow hunting is extremely restricted/illegal there I have jumped on the opportunity to pick it up here in the States..

I have bought myself a Compund (Quest Smoke) and a Longbow, intend to hunt with the Quest.. I feel very comfortable with my shooting, BUT the style of hunting you do here is something that is completely new to me so I am eager to learn!

I would love to find out more about where to hunt here on LI.. I have read most of the posts regarding the DEC land.. But I would like to find out if there is anywhere more "private and secluded" to hunt..

Anyway, I would love to get in contact with experienced LI hunters that could help me out a bit!

My email is: tyrfing@hotmail.com

See you out there soon!

All the best,

Daniel
