Long Island Deer I have been huntin was hit by car last night (Pics)

So i have been hunting this deer for 2 months and this morning at about 50 yards from where i actually park my truck I found him dead on the side of the road.  He wasnt huge but he was really tall with some palmation and a unique crab claw on his right main beam.  He would have made a nice mount.  I am so saddened and frustrated.  Put in about 50 hours hunting him.

By the way in case you didnt

It look as if the car must have clipped his snout because he has a huge gash under his eyes and top of his snout.  His body was perfect and his rack was not damaged so that confuses me.  Damn!!!!!  This was such a beautiful deer.  Sucks that he went out like this. At least when a hunter who respects his game harvests an animal there is a level of respect for the animal.  What a waste.  I hope nobody was hurt in the car.

Sad day!

Long Island hunter......that's terrible.  Sad to hear but Iam sure that big boy has some offspring running out there. You'll find another one keep after it!

wasted deer

That sure is a shame! A very cool looking pretty unique rack too. It always seems such a shame when we see deer that have been hit by cars and end up being wasted as both vittles and trophies. In Tennessee here, you'd not see that deer, still with it's head, dead alongside the road. Legal here to take either just the rack, or perhaps if you saw the deer hit, the entire deer for food as well. A few years back I passed on two small deer in two different areas that I hunted. One was found dead in the woods as I crept into my stand for a January bow hunt and the other seen, as this one, dead on the side of the road as I arrived two days later to hunt the area again.

I sure wish you'd been able to catch up with him prior to his untimely demise.... As already mentioned, hopefully he spread a lot of seed to be sown before hand.  Yes

It's always sad to see

It's always sad to see something like that happen, especially when it was one you were targeting.  50 hours is a long time to put into something.  Hopefuly you will be able to connect with another nice one, even though it won't be the same.

Just curious, how long had he been dead?

Thats the even worse part.  I estimate him being dead between 6 and 15 hours.  I could still bend his neck a little bit and his body had not even been touched by bugs or animals.  He was in such great shape (except his snout) it looked like I literally just recovered him after being shot.

I think he was probably hit that night or early in the morning.  There were burned out emergency roasd flares about 100 yards down the road so I am thinking that was from the police tending to the accident scene.

Maybe I missed it in an earlier post, but what was the outcome of the deer?  Can you legally take it in New York, or do you have to call fish and game?
