a little problem, anyone have it?

hey im jason and im new to the forums. im 18 and have been hunting with my father for about 5 years now with the rifle only.

thing is my left eye is stronger so shoot my rifle left handed, which is no big deal, seeing as i am more comfortable shooting this way. but for xmas i got a compound bow so that i can hunt a longer season. problem is that i draw my bow (browning rage) right handed, but because my left eye is stronger i cant use the peep hole to see my sites.

i was wondering if anyone had any tricks to strengthen a weaker eye or hold my strong eye closed so that i can shoot more accuratly...

thanks

Hi & Merry Xmas:

First, I have no idea how to make one eye your dominent eye, and have never bow hunted or shot one for that matter.
But saying that, rifle shooting is totally a learned experience. I learned to shoot from both right & left shoulders. I've seen shooters do very well in some of the weirdest configuration a person could imagine
I realize that there is difference between bow & rifle shooting, but don't underestimate yourself. Try all option available, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Well I have yet to take some shots with it, I still havent had it tuned in to my draw length or weight, and my arrows need building too.

but thanks for the advice Hammer, once everything is set up nice I'll see what I have to do...I was just wondering if there were any tricks to shooting with a weaker eye. But then again who knows, I may find I can shoot fine without using my peep.

Maybe you could trade it for a left hand model or just wear an eye patch for bow season.
I learned to shoot when I was a kid with my right eye open and left closed. Still do it that way. I spent a lot of time closing my left eye (it wasn't easy at first) but I did it all the time and soon enough I was able to do it with very little effort. I had to do this because every time a deer would show up I would draw, aim, fire and miss! Turned out that I was looking through the wrong eye when shooting at a deer. Target shooting was no problem but when I was hunting and at the moment of truth.............

Listen, I have the same problem but reversed. I got rid of the peep sight, and learned to shoot with both eyes open, what a difference. Just remeber when you start shooting to be constant with your anchor point, and do not move your bow arm until your hear your arrow strike the target.

Im rigyht handed, right eye dominate but I have a bad left arm so I shoot a rifle right handed and i shoot a left handed bow,I just had to practice and do a strength training program, the eye part weas easy, just start shooting with the other eye and dont ever use the other one while shooting, eventually it will become second nature.

i thought about it, but i dont think id be able to draw on a left handed bow...id have to start doing lots of more things with my left arm to strengthen it up, but ya that is another idea.

and i dont think an eye patch during bow season is the smartest things, you miss enough game simply because of a blink of an eye...so having one eye completely covered isnt all that smart in my mind.

what i have been doing is holding my left eye closed then letting go and holding it closed as long as i can, its helping slowly, only as soon as i draw the bow my eye wants to open back up....we'll see how it goes.

That was a joke!

I think a left handed bow is the way to go.

The first time my dad took me rabbit hunting 44 years ago I was six he laughed his ass off at me trying to hit this rabbit like 5 feet away. He told me to try the other eye but I couldn't shut my left eye with out shutting both so he told me to try both eyes open.Best advice I ever got .When I look back on it I wonder if he had that hare proped up lol I did finally get it.

Do what I do, Close your left eye. Aim with your right. Just practice not jerking your bow. Once the shot goes yoy can open both of your eyes. I am left eye dominate and I shoot right handed.
