Little girl interrested in hunting.....

My Daughter, 7 years old, is interrested in hunting and wants daddy to take her shooting. Does any one have any suggestions on what kind of gun I should start her out on?

This is not a toy. It's only 30 inches long and will fit her perfectly. Walmart carries them for under $100. 22 longs dont kick and will make a soda can filled with water explode! She will love it.

i started my daughter with a bb gun fitted with a scope it is easy for them to aim with a scope . then i moved her up to my 22mag with a scope. just start with a big target close then star moving out farther and smaller targets. she started shooting when she was 9 and is 11 now shooting my 50 cal muzzle loader at 150 yard keeping a good 6 in pattern.

Welcome to BGH jmac

I would suggest walking in the woods, looking for animals, having a nice lunch, talking about the wildlife etc. is more suitable for a seven year old little girl. If you must, a low powered BB gun, that knocks the can over at twenty feet, is more than enough to etch in her little mind the theory of hunting.
She'll grow up soon enough
Don't forget the camera, way more important than a firearm at this juncture Thumbs up

Welcome to BGH jmac

I have to agree with Hammer on this one. Best to just spend time in the woods and start developing good woodsman-ship and wildlife identification and habitat.
My son just turned 9 last week and thats all he gets to do at this point.
Last year he went with me and I showed him tracks and such then had lunch on the tailgate of the truck. He was dancing around eating soda crackers and potted meat when he told me that "this is the best day of my life". He is hooked now and I have gotten him a little bow with suction cup arrows to play around with. He has expressed more interest with the Bow than a Gun as of right now. I'll get him a Compound trainer this year and maybe a BB gun .
Good luck and I know you're in for a great time.

I would have to say a .22. It shoots great the options are limitless.

My son's first gun is a rossi 22/410 with the interchangeable barrels. For a girl you may have to buy a cricket unless she is lanky. I prefer to start kids out with a single shot or bolt no matter what, and I figured that the rossi would give me the opportunity to put him onto rabbits or brushytails with one gun. Just taking them into the woods and watching hunting videos with them is a wonderful start. An afternoon spent walking through the woods and talking about what to look for or an evening watching videos and talking about when and where to shoot an animal counts for a lot. My son has only killed targets at this point, but he can tell you where to shoot most large and small game in the US.

Before you invest in equipping your daughter enroll her in a hunter safety course. Then have her go with you a few times to make sure she still wants to hunt after you have killed something. My daughter thought she wanted to hunt but found out she couldn't kill an animal. I was lucky that I didn't have much money invested in her.But whatever you decide let safety guide your decision.

Guns definately don't come first. Make her understand that hunting is not only about gunning down the animal, but respecting the animal and all of nature. Make her understand that without hunters, life would collapse on itself. Teach her outdoor safety. Teach her to respect the outdoors. Then get her a cheap red ryder or something, and teach her gun safety and let her shoot some cans. Then, as she gets older, get her the .22. Definately the best 1st rifle. But make her understand it is the most dangerous gun out there, because people disrespect it, and play with it like a toy. Good luck!
