license checked today

So as I am changing at my truck to drive home a CDOW officers pulls up.  I wave and he pulls over.  Asks if I had any luck and if I had seen anything.  Then asks to see my license.  Of course I pull it out and show him.  He writes all my info down on a little notepad he was carrying and say, thanks have a good day.

I am wondering if it had anything to do with the moose poaching last week. Has anyone else been checked this year?

I've never been checked my

I've never been checked my whole life hunting. I hardly ever hunt popular areas though, and that might have something to do with it.

I got checked 4 times in one year fly fishing once.  Big smile

Odds are if you are hunting

Odds are if you are hunting in a more popular area and are on the road you are more likely to get checked than if you are hunting off in the hills somewhere.  The only time that I have ever been checked is when I have been hanging around a vehicle or passed a officer on my way back to camp while on the road.

Now fishing that is a different story.  But then you are usually sitting in a location where they can check multiple people in a very short time.

Can't say I've been checked

Can't say I've been checked for a hunting license either.  At least I don't remember a time at the moment.  Curious he wrote down all of your information, I suppose that can be standard protocol too.  But I would guess it may have something to do with the moose poaching too.

As far as writing down all

As far as writing down all you information all they need to write down is you CC number and then they can retrieve it from their data base.  I do know that every time that I have been checked they have never written anything down one way or another.

  I had a situation where I

I had a situation where I was near a hunter who had a "shoot through" and hit a second animal.  The DOW officer was called and he never questioned me or my hunting partner who was in the area - only the idiot who didn't know where exactly he was shooting.  Although he did give the rancher two additional cow tags so as to decrease the herd in the area.  The week prior I was rabbit hunting on a walk-in access property near Rush, CO.  DOW officer pulled up just as I was leaving and tried to bait me asking if I got any antelope.  It was a small game walk-in access only area.  I let him look at my rabbit harvest and he checked my license and went on his way.  I did see some great goats that day though!

A few years back while elk

A few years back while elk hunting Dad and I were atb the truck for lunch and a DOW officer pulled up and tal;ked to us for a bit and then asked to see our licenses.  He did the the same thing took our information and was on his way.  It may be just for his own good just in a case sometjhing does happen up there..he has a record of you jhe can contact for info.  With that said for the first time in alot of years we had a game warden drive by our camp and not even stop.  this is a pretty populart spot and this was the first time I had seen one uop there and he did not even stop to say HI.....I wish he had.

He did the same thing just asked for licences and told us a few stories how he fought a man that took a shot at a deer when his wife had the tag and was to scared to make the shot , good thing was he missed and got a 999$ fine. There was also a ja who was ridding his atv w/o having his gun in a case.

It is 100% normal--at least

It is 100% normal--at least during hunting season.  I got checked twice last year--once when going into an area one pulled me over and checked me and the other when I was hauling out my elk.  Both times they wrote down my info in their little notebook.  I was in totally different hunting areas both times and they were different wardens so it must be their protocol.   I am just guessing it is so they know all the guys that are hunting in the area so if they do find some sort of violation like an illegal kill they have somewhere to start their investigation.

I have been checked while fishing also and I dont remember them writing down my info then so maybe it is just a hunting season thing.
