Not sure which liberals were against or for what but I don't think Dems lost anything. Remember the Democratic party now holds a lot of moderates and conservatives now.

I don't know what motivates different senators, probably many different things, but I do know Obama is fairly consistant. If you go back and read what he was saying during the campaign it's a good indicator of where he stands now. So Rahm and Axelrod and Barack himself aren't in the least interested in restricting guns in the rural areas of the country. As he said Chicago is not Wyoming. SoCo has been saying this since before I started posting.

You want to get your knickers in a twist wait until after 2010, I suspect if any gun legislation will happen it would be after the mid terms. Or after 2012, and I suspect it would be more in the nature of city stuff.

Despite the hoopala a Guantanamo prisoner came here last week. Wether the prison there is closed or not I think it will be empty before too long. The probnlem lies with the prisoners themselves and what to do with them. Bush already released most, there are only a few more than 200 left. Because of the way we gathered information through torture most evidence isn't admisable in a court of law. But some of these people really are bad guys. Some have gone round the bend from abuse and will probably need to be institutionalised.

Congress can vote all they want, they dont' decide where to put people, they only allocate money to close the place down. So if it stays running it will be a meuseum. The original chain link portion is abandoned all ready but can't be torn down because it's a crime scene.

Some can't be returned to their own country like the Urgurs from China. Montana has a town that's happy to take them. As Powel said we incarcerate 2 million now, I'm sure we can and will handle a couple hundred more. Actually we have a couple hundred terrorists in prison already. We used to try then convict and jail the criminals, don't know how we gave up on a system that's worked for a couple of hundred years.

CVC, I think you're seeing politicians that are actually reflecting what their constituents want, at least with the gun issues. Another theory is that they don't want to lose votes in future elections.

On the guns in national parks, I'm not sure it would have passed if it hadn't piggy-backed on the credit card issues.

Bottom line, we can't let our guard down. I'm sure the NRA isn't either. At any time, new bills can crop up that will again threaten our 2nd amendment rights.

Now on closing Gitmo, there just wasn't a good plan. I was actually surprised that it was voted down so resoundingly.

Despite all of the "Change, Change, Change" hoopla of the campaign, Washington remains the same on both sides. It's all about getting re-elected and not whats best for the country. You can bet your last rights that given the thought that they could pass Gun Control & move the prisoners from Gitmo to the US mainland AND get re-elected, then they would have voted for both measures and alot more. There is no honor in this Administration or Congress.

Yeah you're right. I'd like to think that they're doing what their constituents want, but they're most likely just looking out for their own butts!

I think the politicians fear the NRA more than they respect their constituents wants.

Some politicians truly respresent their constiutents, but most worry about the next election.

Your right CVC all politicians seem to be afraid of the NRA lately. Even the Dems. I hope it's a trend that continues.

Bottom line is that the issues failed because they were bad ideas. As you said, JTap, these people need to get reelected. People like Max Baucus and Jon Tester out in Montana don't get reelected by advocating gun control and bringing terrorists into the US prison system.

It's not the NRA they fear -- it's the millions of people the NRA represents.

I have taken Neal Boortz advise and used my Voter registration card to make a new letterhead. I now use that stationary with my registration card letterhead for all correspondence with elected officials.
Could be done using your NRA membership card also.
Lets them know that I aint just anybody, I AM a voter.
