Finally

After 7 yrs of applying to raise draw priority, drew the tag, and despite the best efforts of truck hunters to spoil my stalks, on day 5 I finally got him where I started; on My land!
Shot him in a pea stubble field(read summerfallow) from I'd guess 300yds, a longer shot than I'm really comfortable with, but the only one had with the very limited cover. Took patience, luck, and most of the fabric that was covering my knees. Calling it the birthday buck, as yesterday was my Dad's 75th birthday and he was first to spot it.
Checked his stomach, and nothing in it but peas. Can't wait to try the meat. Going to have his liver tonight for supper.
Sorry, no field pic, the stupid camera batteries had died. The pic is in the alley of my friends house who is a taxidermist.
I always forget just how pretty, unique, and even strange they are until you see one up close.

Good job Bruce, looks like it was well worth all of the effort. As I said before, there is nothing like killing one on your own land. Sounds like the peas are the ticket to bring em in. Good shot also!

Wow, look at the coat racks on that one! That completely black face is a tip off for a old mature buck. Nice height on him. Are the cutters busted off? Its hard to find a mature buck that doesn't have some damage. Congrats CVC

Yeah, his right cutter is busted off.

Got him on BLM.

Missed a shot earlier in the day on a really big one.

Slim09 I keep looking at the pic and I just gotta' ask; what is that rifle? How long is the barrel?
Last few yrs I've actually been going the other direction, and the ability to shoot that kind of distance just facinates me.
