I am getting ready for a leopard hunt in Namibia. Too bad I have to wait until the end of August, but so it is. If any one else has a good leopard story, I would like to read
it.
Will you be hunting with dogs?
i will be hunting only over bait. I know it is less productive, but we'll see how it turns out.
Well good luck. I really loved hunting in Namibia and hope to go back one of these days.
just paid for the airfare, Houston to Frankfurt, then Windhoek. OUCH! ![]()
next month I get to pay the daily rate/fee for the giraffe and waterbuck, which I added on to the leopard hunt with two zebras.
just 6 months to go. ![]()
Kevin...........just out of curiosity why didn't you go via SAA to Jo'berg and then take a flight to Windhoek? Are there price advantages for going through Frankfurt and was that via Luthansa?
I chose the frankfurt via lufthansa and namibia via air namibia for several reasons:
1) I read a lot on http://www.accuratereloading.com about their african hunting forum and my general take is that the new laws in RSA can make transit a pain in the butt. I know there are services to smooth that over but --more money.
2) The above route allows direct checkin of the firearm all the way, with no need to clear German customs.
3) The loss of the SAA Atlanta-Capetown/Johannesberg route limited the options, as I did not want to go thru Dulles or NYC (see above forum again for experiences). I took that route for my first trip to Namibia and other than missing my connection in Cape town (mine was the last gun off the plane), it was fine. I know Delta does the route now, but it was not when I started planning the trip. I live in deep south texas and my only airlines out of here are american and continental via houston or dallas. Houston is easy to get to and lufthansa flies out of it directly to Frankfurt. (Plus Delta cancelled all my frequent flier miles last year)
4) I get a stop for schnitzel and bratwurst?!
when I first checked the two routes out, I could not find much price difference. What today's price mix is, I do not know.
Thanks................it is always interesting to hear others take on the flight situation. You should enjoy Lufthansa, it is a good airline.
kissed some more money good bye today. just 5 1/2 months to go. i am starting to dream of leopard hunting.
Hi Kevin, I see you'll be hunting leopard in Namibia later this year. Where will you be hunting and what caliber and ammo will you be using? Which outfitter will you be using? August is a great time for leopard hunting.Looking forward to hearing about the outcome. Best of luck!
I will be hunting leopard with the "die Keiler" group, on a farm near Okahandja. I will do the giraffe and waterbuck nearby, with Ovita hunting farm. I will bring my Tikka .300 magnum for everything, using 180 grain Remington corelokt or PMC 180 grains XLC. They all seemed to think it was a fine choice, even though I offered to bring my .375 H&H or .458 Lott also. I will need all the luck I can get. Thanks. ![]()
