Leftover Licenses for Colorado 2010

I am new to this site and this is my first post. There are four people in my group looking to go to Colorado this year. We did not draw our original license for muzzleloader. Therefore we have reviewed the left over licenses and will probably apply to go to one of the following areas for first rifle season: 082 or 041,042, 052 or 191 or 018, 181. Does anyone have any information about where to get started with any of these areas. We are doing some research on the elk densities and available hunting land but there is nothing better than personal experience. I come from Western New York and want to make the most of our hunt. I have been hunting Colorado for the last 7 years. Two of the other guys are excellent elk hunters and at least one gets one every year. We are bringing along a novice as well. We are willing to do the leg work to figure out an area but need some sort of direction. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome, for God's sake don't waste your time in 191. 18/181 is not what you're looking for either. It's one of my worst ranked units in nearly every season, right there with 191. If you are prepared for a wilderness backpack hunt do 82. If you prefer to use ATVs hunt the Grand Mesa Units(41 etc)

Thank you for the direction. We will definitely look into 82. 18/181 looks like it also has some wilderness but you don't like it? We are looking to pack in where there is no ATV access. Would you have any suggested areas to get started on researching access points for 82? My uncle, who will be going with me, used to live in CO and says that 82 is a lot of desert and the mountains are pretty steep?
