Leftover Licenses

So it turns out my girlfriend didn't draw her deer tag. She still wants to get out this year so it looks like we'll be trying to buy up one of the leftover licenses. I've never purchased a leftover license, can someone fill me in on how it works? I'm assuming CPW will, at some point, publish a list of licenses available and come 8/5 we can jump online and try to buy a license before someone else gets it?

You should have click the

You should have clicked the leftover list on the application. That way you'd get the list early, and get to go through another draw for your pick. You'd only be competing with those who also clicked the box, and failed in the first draw.

Now you'll have to wait until the public gets the list posted on the DOW web site. If there's anything left on the list that you want you'll have to wait until Aug 5th to buy it. It's a first come first served type of deal. Which means you have to get in line early at places that sell tags. Don't pick a popular one, or the line will be too long. You're not just competing with those in your line, but the lines all over the state of Colorado. Whoever gets it entered with the DOW first gets the tag. It's best to find a small gunshop who knows how to get it entered fast, and be at his door first in line before he opens in the morning. Don't think of doing it any other way than this. It will be too slow.
