Leaving in 11 Hours!

Leaving tomorrow morning for my Cow Elk hunt.  Looking forward to getting a nice Cow.  And meat to be donated to the hungry.  I have insurance here as my Cow tag is good until the end of January... but I want to put this one to bed next week.  I hope anyone going out for the 4th rifle season is able to get a great animal in the crosshairs.

Good luck on you hunt.  I

Good luck on you hunt.  I just about got blown off the mountain today while out hunting.  My problem is that I have found the elk but I refuse to go into the country that they are hanging out in.  For some reason I just don't want to pack another one out of there again.

  Thanks Critter!  Hope you

Thanks Critter!  Hope you are able to find those elk lower and closer soon!!!  The area I am going (southwest Co) is supposedly only going to have 17 mph winds with gusts to 30 but that is only for tomorrow.  So I should not get blown off for all of the hunt - hopefully.  The area is a foothill of the southwest slope of the Sangre De Cristo mtns and I am hoping to find the herds low so there is no packing out of my cow.  Another hope!  Good wishes on any more hunts left for you as well!  I will hopefully have pics and an update early next week.

Enjoy the hunt!  Anytime I

Enjoy the hunt!  Anytime I get into the woods hunting elk is a good time.  We will likely get out for a late season hunt once or twice more with my son's cow tag as well.

Good luck knocking one down.

I see your already on your

I see your already on your way but good luck while your out there. It would be great if you could get your second elk as well as your first in the same year. We have been out a little nthis week but the weather was a bit warm and the elk moved out of our regular area and since the freezers are full my son decided he doesn't want to hike in a couple of miles looking for a cow. We will give it one more try tomorrow evening since it has finally snowed but will only have about three hours after work to find one before the season is over. NO big deal though as it's all just fun and enjoyment toegther with my son now whether we get one or not.

Missed my chance to wish you

Missed my chance to wish you luck before you left, but I hope you are having a good time out there.  Hopefully you will nock down a nice cow, and add to that meat in your freezer from your bull earlier this year!

Well I came home this time

Well I came home this time empty handed.  I was able to get close to within 80 yards of one herd of 34 elk but couldn't get a shot off as they were all on private property and my patience did not pay off as the legal hunting hour ticked away.  Later the next day I could not find the herd.  I needed some snow on the ground and there was none.  Oh well not all is lost but just another hunt gained as I will go back out in December and try again.  Thanks for the wishes of success as I will keep them for my next hunt and hopefully will have another story to tell.

Sorry to hear that you did

Sorry to hear that you did not get into one this time around.  Every time out is a learning experience for sure.  Best of luck next time out in December!  Hopefully you will get one then!

Sorry you didn't get one this

Sorry you didn't get one this time out but at least you still have time left to get after them again later. It would be a great finisher to fill that cow tag after the great season you've had going this year so far.

Feeding The Hungry

I'm sorry you didn't get your cow but glad you are afforded the opportunity to try again.

Best of luck to you next month. I am envious of you too, as you got to be outside, while I had to stay inside working. Any day hunting beats a day at work as far as I'm concerned. Your comittment is commendable, as well as your generosity. Feeding the hungry is a worthwhile endeavor in my eyes.
