Congrats on your first two elk!  Sounds like you were able to get into them pretty well.  That is definitely a lot of meat and a lot of work.  How were the pack outs (distance from a vehicle, snow on the ground, terrain, etc.)?  Enjoy the fruits of your labor, and again congratulations!

Congrats on the fine looking( and eating) cows. The first elk I shot were cows too. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks for sharing with us.

 Thanks guys on the awsome comments. WishIWasHunting, we were hunting at mid range elevation with oaks mixed with junipers. We were glassing from a vantage point on a hill were you could see into a basin that had old fourwheller trails going threw it. We spotted a herd of about 30 to 40 elk feeding along the edge of a clearing. The wind was in our faces so we were able to take the snowed over trail and made a 1/2 mile stalk on the elk from where we had spotted them. We were able to get within 250 yards of the elk and me and my friend each picked a cow. My friend shot first and the shot was low, the elk stood still because they didnt realize were the bullet came from so I shot and dropped my first cow while my friend took another shot and was able to connect on his 2nd shot. We both were excited and the elk still didnt know where the shooting came from so I was able to connect on my other cow before they left the clearing. We hiked back down to get the fourwheelers and drove the old trail to where we were parallel to the elk and parked. It was about a 300 yd pack out but we had sleds and was able to drag the quarters and backstraps back to the fourwhellers. We had a blizzard coming in so I had to leave the second cow and we were able to come back the next day to get her out. Everything worked out perfect and I couldnt have asked for a better hunt
