Last Minute Deer Tag Advice

For those of you that remember, I took my girlfriend on first hunting trip in November. She had a 4th season buck tag and we hunting unit 37. We saw a dozen deer or so, but not a single buck. Up until yesterday, she only wanted to apply for a preference point this year. Well, she's now decided that she wants to go deer hunting again in the fall. She doesn't care if she shoots a buck or a doe, she just wants to shoot one (who doesn't?!) My question now for you guys, what unit(s) would you recommend for 3rd or 4th season with no preference points? In looking at the draw results and harvest summaries, I am leaning towards a 3rd season tag in units 3/301 as there seem to be a large number of tags and a high success rate (~75%). Does anyone have any experience with the units? Thanks in advance.

Units 3/301

wooduckman1,

I hunted unit 3 one time, for one day, just becuase I was given some landowner tags in 2009 late in the season. With some help from a couple of guys here on BGH I was able to make it happen in a very short time, but like I said, I have very limited knowledge.

I can help you with the area that was suggested to me through a PM if you would like.

I appreciate it Quinton. If that's the tag we end up putting in for I'll definitely shoot you over a PM.

3 would be a good choice.

3 would be a good choice.  Lots of public snd good number of deer.  301 however does not have much public. Should not have any problems in three though.  Great country for glassing too!

Well don't be scaring my elk

Well don't be scaring my elk away! LOL!

I will be there the same time hunting elk! .... and my deer tag next door in 4,14, 441, 214 (Mostly 4) Most likely will hunt both 4 and 3 for elk though

Good luck!
