Klamath Unit for Elk

I picked up one of the leftover first seaon bull tags for the Klamath unit in Oregon. (yeah, I know there's a reason they're left over). Can anyone give me a starting point for hunting elk in that unit? I'm not looking for someone's honey hole but just a general starting point. I can hit the hills after that and hopefully find elk.

Any help would be appreciated.

Klamath Unit for Elk

Spent the holiday weekend checking some areas out... It's obvious the Klamath unit is NOT the hot spot for elk. Anybody on here familiar with this unit at all?

Welcome to the site. Not familiar at all. I think in that unit I'd be tempted to go to the Coast Range or toward Oakridge on hwy 58. I don't know whats there for hunting land but of you go out toward Reedsport there's an elk viewing area so I know there's elk over there somewhere. See a lot of them in the viewing area.

Youe new to the area? Where are you at?

Klamath Unit

I've pretty familiar with the Klamath Unit. Elk are extremely scarce for sure. Your best bet is to hunt the SE side of Yainix Butte. Swan Lake rim may also hold some elk, but access is pretty limited. The Interstate Unit tag would have offered more opportunity.

Thanks for the help. I'm familiar with a large chunk of the eastern half Oregon but never hunted the Klamath Unit. It wouldn't have been my pick but its an extra tag so...why not. I 've got a murder's creek cow tag for my regular tag.
