Got my buck!

I ended up at the Gander Mountain in Wichita and was able to shoot my bow and adjust for the altitude difference. Then a week later I bagged a nice 9 point buck last Friday! I've made it back home yesterday with a memory I'll never forget hunting in South Eastern Kansas.....I can't wait for next year!

Hey JP,

Good to see your hunt went well. Were you in Chataqua County around near Sedan, Ks?

The terrain there is similar to that depicted in your pics.

Nice buck!

I saw a nice tall 8 this morning. Would have easily been 150-160. He was with a doe and a 9 point around 140-150 was with them.

Rifle season starts in a couple weeks so if I haven't filled the tag with the bow by then, look out! LOL

Nice work,
Joe

I wish I knew what that mass on the base of his left antler looked like before he broke it off! Notice the kicker point going straight back into his ear on that side as well. His ear had a big sore where it had been rubbing that little point.....

The big ones are moving!

I actually patrol Cowley County which is the county to the west of Chataqua County. I live about 8 miles west of Cedar Vale. I saw a 150 and a 140 yesterday together. Today I saw a 170 perfect 8! Can't wait til next week! I don't get to hunt til then:(

Were you with a guide service or an individual?

I'm pretty sure we've met a couple times actually. So, has he hunted with your guide service much?

we'll be hunting in Kansas again for sure. Life has its ways of throwing you a curve ball here and there and causing you to change your plans in order to raise a family. I've been looking into purchasing a ranch there to raise cattle and my 4 daughters. Since the VA is working on making me a 100% disabled vet now, it looks like I won't be allowed to work anymore and my part ownership in my outfitting business here in Colorado hit a brick wall this year and will not be re-newed for next year due to health and financial issues within the corporation. So looks good that I'll be hunting there again next year as it only costs me the price of the Non-res tag and travel there and back. Maybe within 2 years I'll be hunting as a Resident!
