Something is weird

Something is weird about the bison.  It just looks weird that it is missing so much of its coat but its not bleeding where the missing fur is missing.  It almost looks like the fur has been burned off.  I guess the chunks missing on the side that you can see in the picture could have been where the bear was holding on and then the missing fur on the legs is actually "road rash" from the little guy scraping its legs on the pavement while fighting to get free.

Nature sure has a way of capturing our attention!

If you google it there is a story about it where the bison somehow ended up in a hot spings and was burnt that way.  So that would explane how his legs look.  If you have ever placed a tomato into scalding water and watched the skin peal off that is what I believe happened.  The bear just happened buy to try and get himself some lunch.

Odds are that the bison was

Odds are that the bison was hit by a car and then the bear showed up for lunch.

The news report I saw on this

The news report I saw on this said the bison must have fallen in hot water.  I guess that is possible with the geysers and hot springs in the park.  Funny how I hunt and kill animals, but feel sorry for animals when they hurt themselves like the bison did.

Regardless of what happened

Regardless of what happened that is a pretty crazy photo.  I would like to maybe hear some more on this.  Curiuos if the park offical stopped the bear from chasing the buffalo or did they let nature take it's course.

They actually are pretty good

They actually are pretty good about letting nature take it's course.  They try to preserve that place as close to pristine as possible.  If it's something manmade, like an animal falling into soemthing, or getting stuck in a fence, they will assist.  But, if it's nature being nature, I think they pretty much leave it alone.

And now...

...the rest of the story.

I think I remember reading a reply above that said that the fur appeared to be burned.  Turns out, that guy must be pretty smart!

Wow! That is an awesome

Wow! That is an awesome picture sequence. The pictures capturing the grizzly and bison in mid-air are awesome, especially the one of the bear looking straight at the camera.

I was surprised to read the bison escaped the bear's chase. Too bad he had to be put down. Imagine how the bear felt. He couldn't chase down a wounded bison. No medium rare bison for him.

This is just unreal. Check

This is just unreal. Check out this story in the blog section and you can visit a link to a site that has an entire shot sequence from the guy that took the pictures. It is crazy how far down the road that these two critters ran. They stayed on the road for a long time before heading off into the brush. And it is crazy how the bear ran so close to the guy without paying him any attention. He is one lucky guy. It would have been a lot easier for that bear to break off the chase of the bison and to just chow down on the happy tourist.
