Just back from Texas 2013

Well my kids and I just got back from Texas again. Did pretty good with 3 decent bucks taken. 2 8's and broken 9 for my son. Didn't see any hogs this year but that's alright as we had a great time.

First buck with my 35 Whelen and it worked perfectly. Barnes 180TTSX hit him facing me at 90 yards in the throat just off from center and was recovered a few inches behind the shoulder on the same side. Surprised it didn't exit though.

This is my daughters first whitetail. Won't be going back for deer in Texas next year I don't think but hopefully sometime again in the future.

Congrats!

Congrats to all of you.

I knew there was a reason I wanted to hunt with you. You shorten the learning curve on most hunts. I just need to get you interested in an elk hunt, just sayin'.

Great Hunt!

Congrats on another great Texas hunt! Looks like you might be as big a fan of the Whelen "hammer" on deer as I have become. Some may consider it a bit much, but my experience tells me it totes a lethal punch like no other catridge I've killed deer with.

You're suppose to be working

You're suppose to be working on that cabin for the party this coming summer and not going to Texas on a deer hunt.

Looks like some fine eatting, congradulations to the hunters.

Congratulations!

Looks like you all had a wonderful hunt. Those are all very nice bucks. What a blessing to have children that share your passion. Good job dad! Kevin

Thank you everyone,

Thank you everyone,

Hopefully get back up to the cabin next week for a little work. I'm not a builder and things take way longer than I realized, especially with just 1-2 guys working on it a few days a week. We have a stove rigged up for heat but a lot of things will be waiting till next spring. Didn't quite even get the outside finished. Very close but not quite.

Water, solar and porch will wait til next year. Working on stairs finally now and interior walls and ceiling. Going to do a tile floor of some sort like satillo or something but that also will wait until it's not freezing anymore.

Hopefully a few pics next week of the little more we've gotten done.
