Jim, give me your boss' name and number and I'll call and arrange to have him to let you leave early today.

Have a great trip and we'll look forward to hearing all about it.

CVC I do not think you have

CVC

I do not think you have that much pull

Left SC at five pm

I made it as far as western KY and I just ran out of steam

I tried to sleep in truck and kept jerking myself awake so that did not work

I was gonna try to catch three hours and then roll again and make the morning bowhunt but I see now that is not gonna work

I am in cheap hotel and will sleep in just a little and make the last leg of the trip in the morning

I will scout midday and then catch the last couple of hours for a bow hunt tomorrow

More updates to come!

Jim

You're right, I probably

You're right, I probably don't have that much pull, but hey, it is the thought that counts, right?

Wishing you luck and success.  Keep us updated and we'll want pics of the big un!

Thursday - midday

After a hard night last night I made it to camp in late morning today

It is cool cloudy and a north wind

That wind is not going to last but I wish it would

It is supposed to be south by tomorrow morning which is not great for the primary stand location I have chosen

I am going to go look at one more spot right now and make a decision then

My primary spot is on a steep hill overlooking a fairly dense bottom and the junction of two dry creeks

There is a good watering hole in the bottom with trails leading in and out

Unfortunately I have to cut some of the trails getting in there but there is little I can do about that

More later!

thursday pm

Lots of hunters around - of that there is little doubt

Trucks everywhere and all the places in town are jammed up

I am going to have to go with my original primary spot - the scouting this afternoon was partially thwarted by trucks parked in various areas...I could not tell if they were scouting or hunting and did not want to walk in on a legitimate bow hunter

I actually have two stand sites where I will be tomorrow but one of them is a full click from the road - you would certainly have some work ahead of you if you shot one down there - there is a road closer than 1000 meters but it is through some nasty stuff

In fact, this is the nastiest area I can find

Trying to get the cabin situated and supper started

More later

Thursday night

I am in and all set but the hunters keep pouring in!

They must know exactly where they are going in the morning because they have clearly not had time to set up.

I was not prepared for an onslaught like this - they are clanking and clanging around outside my cabin as we speak (if you can call an 8 x 10 Home Depot shed a cabin!).

I had hoped for some solitude in the morning but that seems like a wasted effort now.

I fear the two creek bottoms in front of my stand are gonna be well walked in the morning - but at this point there is little I can do to avert it - so I will put on my happy face and try to catch a wise old buck sneaking in front of or behind some hapless creek walking hunters

I will be on stand a good hour before daylight and plan to remain there all day

Friday morning

Out of the rack at 330 and on stand by 430 this morning

There is another hunter about 125 yards up the ridge from me - he got here about the same time I did

Two other hunters passed by after daylight - one with a stand heading east on the ridge and one walking the bottom going west, presumably trying to stalk a deer but there was nothing stealthy about his progress

I have seen one deer - a 120 class eight pointer

He was at 115 yards and the cover was fairly heavy so I did not attempt to shoot him

Being day one, I will wait for something better

That may come back to haunt but that is ok

I am in hour 5 of a 12.5 hour sit

Just need a monster to show himself
