It's an Addiction

Thats one of my problems I think. I'm used to seeing these small wood ducks and occasional mallard, flying by. When we see those geese being so big they just look closer.

I'm not an expert at hitting or killing ducks and geese at longer ranges. I generally only take relatively close shots. The others I let fly away. Ughhh. Better that way, though. At least for me.

Yeah I usually do as well, just those geese look so close, but it is alot easier to let them fly when I remember that each shell cost me almost $3.00.

One guy I know says he routinely take geese out to 50 yards, but he always counts on having to shoot each bird twice. I'll just stick with 30.

Yeah, the stuff I use is $2 a trigger pull. Makes me a lot more deliberate about my shooting. Quail and partridge that happen to get up - I just watch fly off. Tweedy birds, other stuff, I let fly off. I'll even hesitate to pull the trigger on a pheasant if I'm in quest of my ... addiction.

Ughhhh ... which reminds me. It's been several days now, since ...

Yeah I had to feed the fire yesterday, got one drake woody. We only got 14 days left. The stuff I'm shooting was $26 + tax a box of ten. I thought it was cheaper but I got to the register and it rang up $88 for three boxes and I almost had a stroke.

... well, shot myself into poverty. That was fun. But since there is some paying work now on my desk - I better get to it. It's been DAYS (over a week) since I have shot a quack or a goose, and the season ends this Friday. There doesn't seem to be much around - which is probably good. If there was a lot flying - I would probably head out - and instead I should work, at least for now. I have shot enough. And there will be next year - with a whole new set of adventures.

... tomorrow is the last day up here. Cold - climate change in reverse, at least temporarily. Creeks, ponds, etc. FROZEN. Quackless. Season drifting speedily to a quiet end.
