I had an interesting Friday evening hunt that I would like to share with you. I was set up in a nice location looking to shoot another doe off my place. I had a SE wind that was pushing my wind off the bean field and back into the trees. I had just got setup and had a young buck and a nice doe come in straight down wind of me and head out in the bean field. It started to get a little later in the evening and I was watching does in the beans but none was close enough to shoot. The wind had switched and was blowing out of the west very lightly but enough to push my scent out over the beans. My scent prevention was good as the deer still had no idea that I was there. Well the bugs started to come out so I fired up this Thermacell that I just purchased a couple days before. That's where the hunt ends. When that thing got warmed up two of the does popped their heads up and blew and cleared the field of deer completely. The deer were gone from the field for about 15 minutes and then they started to come back out a few at a time. A nice mature doe came out and walked right over to me as if to check if the scent she smelled was gone. It wasn't so she blew and cleared the field again. This same situation repeated itself a half dozen more times. The deer would clear the field for about 15 minutes then they would come back. I tried several times to leave but got interrupted by the deer re-entering the field. I would avoid the Thermacell. It didn't even work to boot. I just couldn't figure out why they kept coming back to check it out. Interesting to say the least.
