Information Sought on Colorado Moose Poaching Near Vail
I'm surprised that the rack was recovered. If they didn't take the carcass and they didn't take the rack, my guess would be that someone mistook the moose for an elk. When they discovered that they had shot a moose instead of an elk they probably just decided to shut up and leave the area.
The other thread with a title something like, "need an attorney in the Denver area" might provide a clue as to why. It is from someone who voluntarily reported an accidental killing of game and who ended up being raked over the coals by the DOW. If they don't treat people who voluntarily report these things with the greatest reasonable leniency then they encourage people to just walk away when something like this happens.
