info on Lolo Zone in Idaho

My Brother and I and two of our buddies are coming to the Lolo Zone at the end of September for a self-guided archery elk hunt. We were wondering which of the units is better hunting Unit 10 or 12, where abouts to look for the elk at that time. Any help would be appreciated.

The LOLO unit has been a traditional hotspot in Idaho i have never hunted there myself, but talking to others who have say it is a really great hunt. However i would encourage you to look at the IF&G wolf reg plan and read the section on big game. It specificaly speaks on the LOLO unit. Just an FYI i would find out the specific names of the packs in the area you are hunting and ask ifg officals or biologist where these packs have last been sighted or reported,or tracked. and get as far as possible from them. The stories of interaction between hunters and wolves tripled this year from the last. And if you want to bring an elk out i would factor in wolves, From stories i have heard the elk in this unit have all really cut down on the bugling, and are being very elusive. I realize you are a DIY, but you can get a very reasonable rate on some drop camps from some very reputable guides who could get you going in the right direction. If this is your first time hunting in IDAHO you are in for a treat, I find the people friendly and treat the non res hunters quite well. I hunted utah for alot of years, but utah treats Non res hunters like garbage. I will send my hard earned cash to ID. I will hunt elk in 2009 in UT for the simple fact that i have the max amount of bonus points for any LE Hunt i want. So a 400 class bull for 2009 yeah i could deal with being a second class citizen for that. Good luck on the LOLO will be a great hunt no matter how you do it. Big smile

Thanks alot soules I appreciate the help, I know the wolves have done a number on the elk. We've been to Idaho once before with no luck but it was a great experience in some beautiful country and you are right about the way they treat the non-residents. Going with a different game plan this time and we will have more luck. Anyway good luck in Utah hope you get your 400 class bull.
