Info. on area 15 for elk

The three of us are experienced elk hunters all having shot elk before. We are from Iowa. We have hunted Montana, Wyoming but like Colorado. We have hunted north of Walden but want some new scenary.
Hoping to get some advice on hunting spots in area 15. I am not asking for your secrets, just some ideas on where to start. Would like info. on private land access too if available. We are going to stay in Kremmling and hunt the Routt forest. We have atv's but are not afraid to walk and earn our elk. Your advice would be very appreciated.

Info. on area 15 for elk

I have not hunted unit 15, but I have been in it many times on the north end toward Rabbit Ears pass.

During the hunting season I regularly see hunters (archery through to modern firearms) working off highway 40 bordering into unit 27.

It isn't "a lot of hunters" but enough that you do notice them. I'm not sure if this indicates that there is quite a few elk or not. I have seen elk up there, but then this is alpine hunting so you have to get out and pack it get into the herds. There is a large amount of open space around Rabbit Ears pass. Although this is at the convergence of unit 15, 27, 14, and 16.

At any rate if you did hunt this region it is quite scenic. So even if the hunting sucks, you'll at least have something to look at. Wink
