I'm Back!

Well back to civilazation after 9 days in the mountains.  we all had a great time.  The weather was the craziest I have seen in many a yerars of hunting.  High winds rain, snow, sleet all at the same time at times.  We got a total of 16" of snow at camp and near the top od the mountain there was around 22".  We had two huge trees fall within 100' of the tents...pretty crazy to hear them fall in the middle of the night just wondering where the next one will fall.  I beleive the weather really holed up all the animals for the first 4 days of the hunt and after that we started to see more and more fresh tracks in the snow.  For some reason I just kept coming across the animals with no horns.  I saw around 30 or so does and not a buck in the group.  I did chase a bull a for 2 hours thru heavy timber and ravines intil it got dark and had to head back to camp.  my buddy did mange to harvest a broken off 6x3 on Wedsenday....I have no pics.....maybe he will send me some.

All in all as always it was a great time to be in the woods and I have no regrets about not getting my elk or deer this year..there is always next year.

Instead of flooding the forum with all my pictures I just opened a photo album title Elk Hunting 2010.  So head there to see some of the pictures I took....more to follow.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! Sounds like you had quite a time of it.

Too bad you didn't connect, but like you said, you saw lots of animals, just the wrong gender.

Glad you had a good time, and I imagine you're already looking forward to next year.

Thanks for this report and the live updates from the field; it was great to follow your progress - or lack thereof.

Sorry to hear that you didn't

Sorry to hear that you didn't get a chance to shoot one.  Glad to see your buddy got one though.  And, I would hope that since he's your buddy, at least you may have gotten a little meat out of it, yeah???

Yeah I am already getting

Yeah I am already getting ready for next season.  I have also thought of taking a year off and heading to Canada to go goose hunting, but for some reason I still beleive I will end up in elk country.  Even though I did not get one I had a great time as always.  I sure hope I get at least a steak or something from that bull...seems how I carried two front quaters at onw time for 1.5 miles nack to the truck.

Yeah. I would hope you do get

Yeah. I would hope you do get some.  Talked to a guy the other day who said he went elk hunting a few years back, and one of the guys got a nice bull about 4 miles back in the mountains.  he said he and others trekked in, and he carried about 80-100 lbs of meat on his back for all the way to camp.  The guy sprung for pizza, and that was it.  Didn't give out any meat or anything.  Pretty sad.....

what a time!

GooseHunter, I must say it was great meeting you guys as well.  From the short time we got to visit your group seems like the spitting image of ours.  A bunch of guys who like to have a great time together where the memories are usually the most important thing you can bring home.  I posted a story of our successful hunt with some pictures under the story section.  I'm not sure if it's up yet but once it is check it out.  I'll be in touch with the location info for you.

Success isn't measured by a kill

Sounds like you had a very interesting hunt. Some ups and downs and you probably learned quite a bit on this trip. Also thanks for the great pics ! Yes

welcome back goose. Sorry to

welcome back goose. Sorry to hear that you did not get anything but atleast you were able to take some time off and spend it in some beautiful country. Atleast you got some weather too. Although it sounds like it might have been a little annoying at times. For a while there, I pretty much had counted precipitation out for Colorado during the hunting seasons. That is neat that you were able to meet up with bearlk. Thanks for posting the great pictures. There are some great shots in there. You should definitely post a picture of your buddies elk if you get a chance. And hopefully you will end up with some meat off of it since you obviously put in some serious work to get it out.

Yes

It was nice to meet you goosehunter. Thanks for letting us hang out with you guys for a while. I think it was also cool that one of your guys whom id never met, actually hunted the same area in Minnesota that ive hunted. It truely is a small world among outdoorsman. Hope to meet you again up there. (Im thankful Bearklr didnt wipe our only means of transportation out on that mudhole by your camp)
