Dead on correct Mike. I have the misfortune of having to live here at the moment (wifes mom lives here. moved here so she could spend time with out lil one before, well you know) I refuse to hunt in this state because I ABSOLUTELY refuse to get an FO card. Which you have to get to even buy AMMO!!! It is a blatent violation of the 2nd. How they get away with this violation escapes me. I was always under the impression that no state could superceed the federal mandates of the constitution. To bad you have to have buku's of money to wage a war on violations such as this. I guess the people of this state enjoy living under a facious ragieme< (spelling) because they voted this BS in with over 85% SUPPOSIDLY. I would fathom a guess that that number was HIGHLY doctored by the anti's here. This state offers some of the best deer hunting in the nation but I will never fall for that BS fo card. Had a few tell me that since I was a gun owner that I would have to either get one or they could actually come take my weapons. I laughed so hard I damn near pee'd maself Laugh Laugh Laugh Said lettum come. They wont like the results of thier disreguard for this country's most sacred documents. THE CONSTITUTION and the BILL OF RIGHTS

Responce to an email I sent to NRA about this FOID card BS here in IL.

Mr.Cox.--Thank you for your message. I sent it to our Institute for Legislative Action for their views.

ILA tells me that the law was passed in the late '60s. While we disagree with it of course, and have supported
legislation to repeal it several times over the years, it does not appear to be changeable in the current
political climate of Illinois. Since the courts in the region have held up handgun bans
as unconstitutional (Morton Grove) it would seem very unlikely that a legal challenge
of the FOID card would be successful.

Most hunters, and gun owners in general, object to the law just as you do. But until such time
as we can get it changed, most do in fact buy the card, which is relatively cheap (I stress the
word "relatively.")

One minor point-- I do not believe you need an FOID card for bowhunting. You might double check
that with your state authorities..

Thank you and I'm sorry we couldn't be of more help

They are incorrect on the bowhunting part as you have to purchase a regular hunting license to even get an Archery license so you cant get either without the FOID card.

I sent this in reply and question. Was a little late in the day so I havnt heard back.

Ok Last question, Since as you say most hunters and gun owners object to this law, What would be entailed in getting a formal petition started and have proof that the MAJORITY is actually against this law? I would be more than happy to help in any way that I could as far as footwork and whatever else. I am a strong advocate for gun control (I hit what I aim at therefore I am in control). Ok that was a small bit of levity. While yes I do think steps need to be taken when it comes to felons obtaining firearms, I do not believe that we as a whole should have to suffer for their transgressions as I am having to do in this instance. In this country the MAJORITY is supposed to rule so I would imagine that if you take a strong enough petition in they would have to vacate this law from the books. I know Im making this probably sound a lot easier than it probably is but its my feeling that it actually COULD be that simple if done in the proper way and with the NRA fully behind it legislatively. (My spelling sucks sorry)

Will keep you all updated on this. How bout we take this to a level in here and start an electronic petition against this transgression on our 2nd amendment rights?

This will be a lost effort in Ill., those flatlanders just dont care if they are living in a communist state. This is one of those things where the Federal Government should step in and let the State of Ill. know that they are infringing on US citizens rights under the constitution, and it will Stop ALL funding or financial help to the State until it comes back in line with the federal law. If I was you, I would find a family member outside of that State to keep my guns for me, or I would go to great lengths to hide them, and to keep anyone from knowing about them until I could move the heck out of the state.

Aint no way I would ever live there, or work there, or pay them taxes for any thing.
And the only logical reason for dis allowing youths to hunt, is simply to get rid of hunting altogether, they are trying to eliminate hunting and gun ownership in that state 100%

LoL I have no need to hide them. They would get a full and unadulterated understanding of thier intended use if they tried to come take them. I fought, killed, bled and shed blood for this country and its great constitution and I will for one be damned if some facious sob will come walking into my house to take ANY property which I bought legaly and am constitutionaly allowed to own and BEAR and they would get a full appreciation for the BEAR part!!! One thing you DONT EVER try to do is try to take a hillbilly's gun!!! I was born and raised in the hills of Tennessee and taught well the fine art of self defence.

The government(state or federal) has no buisness in that area. When will people orginize and protest this kind of BS? Just remember that British sportsmen lost their rights because they didn' tstand up for them. We have to make sure that it never happens here.
