Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has hunted the shawnee national forest in illinois, or the hoosier national forest in indiana. I love hunting big woods, since thats what I grew up hunting here in Vermont, but we just rarely grow any quality racks. killed one 222 completely kleaned last year, and rack probably only scored 90 inches. If anyone has info on quality of bucks, and the size of the woods(area without roads), or type of woods it would be very helpfull. I've heard that there is allot of active logging there, which usually means good hunting. thanks.

Josh I used to hunt shawnee in southern illinois and it used to be awesome Over the past three years hunting pressure has been horrible there and it's lost hope for big bucks. they are still there but are so difficult to hunt
you can actually get maps or shawnee and other areas on line. Fyi the best places to hunt shawnee are around the local lakes in the area crab orchard, devils kitchen etc. If you have a boat hunting there is a lot easier and more rewarding good luck we do have a 189 P & y ten point from that area though its been a few years since we've seen one that big

Thanks allot for the reply. How good are the bucks that you are still seeing? Are there any areas that allow you to get way back, or is it pretty broke up? THANKS! Thumbs up
