Illegal Shooting

SO get this, my butcher did up my moose for me and found a.22 magnum bullet in the hind of my moose. Lost a few nice roasts from it so ended up with alot more burger than I wanted. What the hell are ppl out there doin shooting at such a large animal with a .22 cal bullet. Going to bring the fragment into the Fish cops and tell them where it came from, maybe they can match it up and charge the meathead that did that. Prob wont happen, dont know how bad the bullet is chewed up

Illegal Shooting

That is completely nuts to shoot a moose in the butt with a 22 Mag. Just some IDIOT having what he calls fun... Good luck on ever getting a conviction, we had a moose SHOT and LEFT here to ROT , and that was 2 years ago and no convictions. Stuff like this really gets to me because wildlife is a fragile resource and needs to be protected

Illegal Shooting

When I was working in northeastern Alberta years ago I know the natives quite often shot moose with a .22 magnum. They would shoot a moose in the paunch a few times and then follow it up later.

There were also a few oil patch boys that used them to shoot moose at night on the road or in the ditch. I caught one chap from Newfoundland with a dead moose in the back of his truck at about 3am and he had shot it in the head with a .22 magnum. Not too bright. The moose quarters were still steaming and the rifle still had shells in the magazine and he hadn't even jacked the empty out of the chamber.

The .22 mag is used by poachers quite a bit.

Sounds like some really ethical guys you're dealing with. I have heard that the .22 mag and even 22LR are the calibers most used by poachers.

A few years ago in Maine they

A few years ago in Maine they had a bunch of moose found dead on a logging road, just shot and left to rot.  They found bullet casings and a bunch of empty beer cans.

There are idiots everywhere that give us hunters a bad name, unfortunately....

That is horrible. I don't

That is horrible. I don't doubt it though. I just don't understand behavior like that.

WOW!! some people are just plain stupid, why in the heck would you shoot a moose with a .22. thats just plain dumb. some times i wish isiots like this would do that and piss those big moose off and get trampled, it would serve them right. I sure hope the Game wardens can do more to catch these people. it people like that give the rest of us a bad name, what a shame.

Some people are just complete

Some people are just complete idiots.  I would have to think that a poacher would not go out with a .22 if they were intending on shiooting a moose.  My guess would have to some dumbasses out there screwing around taking pot shots at anything that walks just trying to see if they could hit it or what it would do to such a big animal.  Some people give the ethical hunter such a bad name.  No wonder we get alot of grief some non hunters and non hunting groups.

People are cruel. Why would

People are cruel. Why would you intentionally inflict suffering on an animal?  These people are depraved sociopaths and I hope they get caught and I hope there are stiff penalties that they can receive.  Unfortunately, even though they are not hunters, they will give hunters a bad name which is not logical.  Someone who publishes child porn doesn't give all photographers bad names but the public is so quick to identify these criminals with hunters.  Not fair, but that the way it is.  Just means as hunters we have to work harder to make sure our public image is a good one.
