il. iowa, public land question

im looking to visit illinios or iowa,to hunt deer on publc land. i do not want to use an outfitter, id rather do everything myself, but i wouldnt mind a little help either. any information of quality public lands, good people to get intouch with, anything would help. thank you.

The public land in Iowa is good. I have hunted Iowa a couple times but ended up getting permission on several farms quite easly and ended up hunting that instead. Here is a link to the public lands.

nice buck, congrats. do you know of any groups or land owner commissions that would put me in contact with land owners willing to grant permission??

Buckrun,
Just look at the public propertys, concentrate on the river bottoms, once your there hunting or on a prior trip knock on some doors. You will be surprized at how easy it is to get permission.

A frend of mine has family in clinton Iowa and has invited us to hunt next nov. Any comments on clinton county or the deer hunting in iowa.I'm from Pa. I'm taking my 12yr old son ,can't wait..looking for a good hunt,good time and good people!

I am not familar with Clinton county.... But most of Iowa has awesome deer territory.

Maybe you know,is there a rifle or muzzleloader season that overlaps in Iowa during bow season,I'd like too bow hunt but my son may not be ready too take a deer w/the bow so it would be great if he could use a gun.I'm going to get him ready w/the bow but I won't take him out until he and I are both confident in his abilitys.
