I read the post about CA already but Im hoping for some more new info on actual land size for public hunting. In idaho we can hunt dang near anywhere thats not private wich is a ton. Hey Boise,
In Cal. pig hunting is open all year, lots of public land for hunting hogs, however the best hunting is on private lands. Much of the terrain for hog hunting is difficult, rocky, thick etc. they tend to roam only at night and the twilight hours. Some good hunting can be found on military bases on the coast where you pay a small fee to hunt. The best counties are Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Kern county, but pigs are found in a lot of places in the state.
This year they really screwed us and jacked the price of tags about a gazillion percent, used to get 5 tags for around $12 (year before that it was much less), now it is $15 a tag-Bastods! Out of state would be more, at least for the license.
Let me know if I can offer any more assistance:) zeN

zeNMan
You do much boar hunting in Cal.?
I lived down in the bay area for many years and hunted the Hunter Ligget reservation, out of King City a couple of times.
I've heard that it's good around Yreka (I think I spelled it right).
Do you ever get out after them? What area(s) do you prefer? Is there a preferred time of year. I know it can get blistering hot up around the north central part of the state in the summer.
Let me know. I'll come down to see how that 405win can tag one of those big boys.

Hey Fuzzybear,
I have been hunting boar for years in the Central Valley, haven't taken one yet on public land, they live in tough terrain, can hunt em all year round, summer is very hot, they usually roost up high during day in heat and come down at night in low foothills here, private land is where the best hunting is supposedly. But there is no 'best' time of the year to hunt them as far as I know.
If you want to get together sometime to chase some pigs let me know, as soon as I get my outboart running I am planning on taking my Achilles across Pine Flat lake and hunting them on BLM land, so maybe you might be interested, the hunting is hard but that's part of the fun huh? later zeN

Right now I'm nursing a busted up ankle. Tore some ligaments but, I was the first one down the hill.
Keep me informed. Sound like a thing to do. All I need is the time and the license. What part of the state are you located.
