Idaho general hunt permit verses Controlled permit

Think
Can anyone explain the difference in the general hunt vs the controlled hunt permits in Idaho.

I see the seasons, areas, but nothing defining what the controlled hunt consists of?

I'm looking for bull only or either sex archery only for 2006

Controlled hunt is for areas with better success allegedly. Not mean a guarantee. But Open is just over the counter tags.

The controlled hunts are by lottery application. You put in, along with whoever else wants that hunt, and a pre-determined number of applicants are selected (basically by lottery-random). Generally the controlled hunt means the FG can control the number of hunters and therefore the number and quality of bulls. There are apparently some nice bulls in some of the controlled hunt areas.

I think FG has also used the controlled hunts to bring back numbers in areas where animals were nearly vanishing.

In some areas (perhaps deer only) FG has some controlled unlimited hunts - which are more complicated to explain fully - but if you put in you are guaranteed to get drawn because there is no limit to the number of tags. But - that's the only hunt you can participate in for that animal.

Thanks for the information. I am still a little cloudy. Are the seasons for the controlled hunt the same as general seasons, only limited to certain zones? Are the number of "controlled " tags the only tags available regardless of weapon of choice?

The Idaho regs are complicated ... http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ ... once digested, however, I'm generally happy with them. Sounds like you're on track. Let me know how it goes.
