Idaho Bear Hunting Success

We are back from our week long spring bear hunt in Idaho and we had a blast. The area is a 2 bear area and I took both bears, one being a black and the other a color phase chocolate/cinnamon looking bear with a nice chest mark. Neither bear was huge but the area is not known for producing many of those 400 pounders. The black bear went about 175 and the color phase about 130. Took the black bear the first night and the color phase the 5th day. We saw bears every day with a total of seeing 8 different bears. We did see a few of the same bears every day but they were smaller than the ones we took. The biggest bear we saw was a cinnamon about 250 pounds but I had no clean shot so did not get it. We saw several other larger bears on the trail cameras but most were coming in between 2300 and 0400 and since you cannot hunt at night we could not get them. They did not get that big from being stupid that is for sure. It was very unfortunate that our unit was closed to wolf hunting or I could have taken a very nice black colored wolf the first day. It was standing 61 yards away broad side and I really wanted to pull the trigger but without a tag could not.

The outfitter was fantastic! Honest, hard working with a true love of hunting and his job. His  wife was the cook and camp host and again was a great lady. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants a great remote bear hunt. If you want more info send me a PM and I will tell you all about them.

As for photos I am still working on those. Always seem to have trouble getting them to take on BGM. Will be gone this weekend so hope to have them up by next week.

I think I have the photos figured out!

Thanks guys, brought home all 4 rear quarters and the loins. You do not need to take any meat in Idaho but I just feel that is wrong to waste that much meat. I will have to try the smoking of a ham. I have never done that before but it sounds good.

We are getting both bears full mounted with one laying on a tree branch and the other walking at the base of the tree. Black one will be in the tree with the color phase walking so you can see the chest markings. If you type in Jonas-supply on Google and click on the life size bear mounts you can see how the one in the tree will look. The one on the ground will just be a walking look but on an angle to see the chest markings. I will post photos once we get the mounts back in 8-9 or more months.

I will post a few more photos once we are back from the holiday weekend.

Hope all have a great and safe holiday weekend.

Congratulations on your

Congratulations on your success!!! I want  A bear badly but will still have to wait awhile for one. I get too many other things planned to work a hunt like yours in.

I know Idaho can be good but yours is the first real success story from there I've read in awhile.
