I think I found my buck

Was doing some timberline scouting, and I'm hoping I can find one of these boys during 4th season. There's no early high country season in this unit, but there is a poular muzzleloader (and archery) so hopefully at least one these deer make it past archery, muzzy, 2nd and 3rd season and stays off the private land near where I like to hunt. Is that asking too much?
Some other observations:
The tundra is dessicating early this year and got a late start for the growing season, so I'm thinking most of the game will be out of the high wilderness areas and into more accessible country when the rifle seasons roll around.
And dang, I've seen some good antlers this year.
I've been seeing more high altitude deer than elk, which is a change from what I normally see. Hard to say whiy that would be exactly. Maybe the forbs the deer are eating are more cold resistant and the grasses and sedges the elk focus on have lost their palatability already? Dunno.

Can you see the second buck? He's in the shade in the krummholz about 30 feet behind the obvious buck.

Only about 4 miles as the crow flies to where I'm hoping to find him, but if he goes much further he's home free. We'll see. I can be patient with the trigger, I may not find him, but it helps knowing exactly what caliber deer I can hope for in the area. And when the rut hits, they get stupid, so just maybe he'll slip up.

Nice looking bucks (if I'm seeing the second one correctly you can see horn pretty well). Last year we found a similar situation, we were seeing bucks and does high up on ridges at timberline where in years previous we'd seen the elk. The elk we were spotting were just a tad lower between 8 and 9 thousand ft. From your report sounds like it's likely to be the same this year. Around here in Southern Colo. I'm hearing reports of and seeing lots of bucks from Westcliff to Walsenburg. Should be a good year!

Those are some dandy bucks. They didn't get big by being dumb so there's a good chance they'll be around when you come back Thumbs up
