I shot my Remington 870 Express for the first time...

A few months ago, I bought me a Remington 870 express for about 250.00 brand new.

Well, I waited till it got warm, and went to the range.

Thought this gun would kick due to a lot of people telling me this. But, when I started shooting it shot real smooth. Didn't feel a thing. One thing though, I was using 2 3/4 shells #8, so that could've been the reason. I want to try out 3" to see how it feels.

Man i'm hooked on clay target shootin!

Try some of those 3" slugs if you are looking for a wallop but I also have an 870 and 3" mags are not too bad either. Thumbs up The 870 will last you a lifetime.

Thanks... I try to give advice based on my experience and the 870 gets high marks in my books. You won't be disappointed and it didn't break the bank. It is one of the best shotgun deals out there. Thumbs up

e4c4ever,
Did you get the 870 Express with synthetic stock/forend or the hardwood version? In my experience the synthetic version seems to kick less than the hardwood version. Of course like Chestergolf said, you need to try some 3" shells. You will definitly notice the kick in these 3" waterfowl magnums, and luckily in waterfowl hunting you are not normally going to shoot more that a box of shells a day, if even that much. Not to mension that the 3" shells will be much louder, more of a loud deep blast rather than a sharp crack.

I have the laminated wood stock/forearm. I definitely want to try out the 3" shells. I'll post an update when I do shoot.

I thought the same thing about my mossberg 500. But i was also shooting 23/4. Shot some 3'' 00buckshot and whooooooo we. I quickly went back to the 2 3/4 #6 squirrel loads. I have even tried a couple slugs that I planned on hunting with and DAMN!!!!! talk about shooters shoulder. Shame on You!

I want to buy a good recoil pad. Maybe that will help.

I have an 870 express too.

I have shot some #8, some 2-3/4 00 Buck and some slugs.

With #8 there's no recoil worth mentioning. With buck or slugs there's some recoil but I never minded it.

Never tried 3" buck though.
