welcome to BGH

Tell us more about where you from, what you've hunted and why you chose that tag... Are you also going to be elk hunting?  You coming from out of state, are you going to be able to scout it?

Deer numbers: Like most of Colorado, it's down quite a bit from 2007 when units 25,26 and 34 were around 9850.  Now down to about 4250.  Not going to be on top of the Flat Tops much during 3rd season, they'll be in the canyons on the south, west and east portions of the unit.

Success rates are typically pretty low (mid 20s% is typical for 3rd season) in that unit due to difficult terrain around Glennwood Canyon.  Easier terrain on the east side of the unit.

Camping areas:  there's plenty, but the official campgrounds are way up high around Heart Lake.  You probably don't want to deer hunt there in 3rd season.  Another one at Coffee Pot Spring, which might work better for you.  You won't be able to camp off of the trailheads on I70, I don't think.  Of course you can pretty much pull over and camp anywhere you want on most BLM and forest service.

Terrain and vegetation:  Some scrub oaks, pinyon-juniper, aspen and heavy timber, depending on where you are.  The BLM country around Dotsero and Chacra is a little more open for easier spot and stalk hunting.  Some burns around Canyon Creek and near Storm King Mountain.  Pretty thick and pretty steep in the canyons along I70 like Grizzly Creek and No Name Creek.  Deep Creek and Canyon Creek are nasty too.

It'll kick your butt, but I do some shed hunting in the lower parts and put my girlfriend in for the 4th season tag, but no luck on that this year.

Keep us updated, I'll be curious to see how you do.

thanks for the info ive hunted deer for five years in colo have not killed but have seen others do so i like to get out and hunt but im looing for one to get me going so not seen it yet just like to be out hunting around ive thought about elk tags and also bear tags before but have never got one for either but if there is achance then i might look in to it

so its going to be steep and rugged and notmuch road access huh sounds like i need the hikeing shoes then  thanks for the info its great info but i probably wont make it out to scout unless i get a wild hair  because im busy fighting fires durning the summer and then hunt utah in early fall but it might happen if i get time
