No, there would be 100 hunters getting tickets, paying fines and loosing their hunting rights. Then the media gets a hold of this and distorts the facts more which will bring more pressure on the situation.  If you want to do something about the situation, just do it. Never ever announce your intentions. Follow Critter's advice.

I agree with ecubackpacker,

I agree with ecubackpacker, numbnutz and groundhog. We as hunters must abide by the law in our jurisdictions. The antis are already trying to make us look bad, we sure don't need to give them more fuel. The only way to fight wolves is legally. We cannot condone any type of illegal behavior. And you most certainly should not be bragging about shooting wolves illegally online.

I understand....

snaptite....I completely understand your feelings and admittedly in my own rants I have said I would practice SSS.  I think rather than letting this turn into an argument we should remind each other of what's at stake here and openly discuss the issue.  While wolves are impacting elk herds very seriously in certain parts of the west I don't think it's worth decrediting ourselves by going rogue and appearing as if we don't care about the law.  We all know the driving forces at work and they are not just mouths full of teeth on a mountain somewhere, they are gavels in courtrooms.  This is where the real battle is being waged.  Having said that I think practicing SSS, at least openly, is only going to hurt our cause.  I don't think it will "wake anyone up" but you're right it will get the attention of many agencies.  I just don't know if it's the attention we want.

Please let's not let the wolf issue divide us.  When one of us gets emotional on the subject let's not pin them to the wall and try to discuss openly.

You're entitled to have an opinion

Just don't expect everyone to share it.  I lived in Montana for 5 years, I've hunted elk in wolf country.  I recognized the loss of elk, but I wasn't about to go poach a wolf.

Your stance is similar to me saying because I don't like the fact that I'm not allowed to shoot cow elk in an area, I'm just going to do it anyway.

Wolves will be off the endangered species list eventually, and you'll be able to shoot them then.  Until then, you're a just poacher and stupid one if you're going to go blab about it on the internet.

While we can understand why you would want to poach a wolf, it's still poaching, now matter how you want to justify it.

And what did you expect us to say?  "Way to go!", "shoot one for me too?".

Your right snaptite47, you don’t belong on this website, I for one will not be sad to see you go.  If you advocate poaching on a hunting forum you don’t belong there.  Poachers are taking “your” elk in Idaho too, now you want poach to prove a point to the state?  Your ridiculous thinking that natural born predators are killing all “your” elk.  With less elk out there you’re going to have to become a better hunter, like a wolf.  I guess with less elk in Idaho you can’t just step out your back door and kill one anymore, whatever will you do?  You will just have to stop expecting the state to hand you your elk every year and get off your butt and do some actual hunting.

There is a problem with wolves in Idaho, I’m not arguing that point, but there is a better way to get people to recognize the problem.  I would love to come up to Idaho and hunt a wolf as a legal big game animal once they start selling licenses.

Alpine I'm pretty sure everyone here knows you're a solid, honorable, stand up guy, from how you express yourself here. You have nothing to worry about.

I agree

I agree with what the rest of you said.  It was the ignorant law beaking folks who ruined (probably forever) hunting and the reputation of hunters that we see today.  Is this the reason why our younger generation is being brainwashed by anti-hunters into thinking that hunting is bad and hunters are all mindless evil killers of every animal they see??? Is this the reason why a great many folks in our society completely misunderstand hunting and hunters??  There is supposed to be a method and ethics to hunting.  Remember - there is no individual right to hunting in this country, it is a privilege, like driving is too.  The 2nd Amendment does not cover nor include the privileges of hunting in this country.  Do what Snaptite47 suggests and we'll all eventualy see our hunting privileges be taken away.  My suggestion to you Snaptite47 is to STOP fueling the anti-gun and anti-hunting crowd with a legitimate reason to banish hunting.  Right now most of what PETA and the anti's are reacting to is unfounded, but that will change if more people like Snaptite 47 keep spewing their rhetoric.
