I remember reading an article in some outdoor magazine this summer that mentioned studies in deer and mammalian urine and that it wasn't a deterrent.

I don't personally tree stand hunt, but i have rock climbed for years. Buy a Nalgene bottle (this is not a place to skimp) put a loop of rope taped to it for an attachment point (the loop on the lid WILL break in time) and mark the outside so there is no question that it isn't for drinking from.

After dumping and putting up for a period of time, swish a splash of bleach and some water inside and dump first.

Also works good for not getting all the way out of your tent at night.

Ive actually watched bucks come up to the tree I wizzed at, sniff around, then proceed to make a scrape there. Its not as bad as you think it is. Like sultanshooter said it isnt a deturent. I wouldnt go so far to say its an attractant. But Ive never seen a deer shy away from it either.

I've also witnessed bucks making scrapes where a human has urinated. I've even experimented making artificial scrapes that way with some success.

I once read a story about a guy that walked well out into a field to relieve himself and went back to his stand. One of the other folks in his camp watched a doe walk out to where he had relieved himself and proceed in rolling around in that particular spot.

Apparently, this was a true story. Although, everyone in camp dubbed him "Sweet Pee" from that point forward.

I have a hunt shack and it has no toilet so I use the spot behind the wood pile to urinate.

Just last week I go to the spot in the morning to use it and a huge buck less than 20 FEET away started to snort me, stamp, and blow. This may be the first time in 40 years I was worried about a deer ... he had a rack and I was concerned he might gore me, even the dog was acting like WTH ?

Finally he "walked" away after about 2 minutes of his worrisome behavior .
I truly think he was disturbed because he felt my pee spot was an intrusion on his turf.

Made me a firm believer man pee don't bother them.

Its not a deterent from all my experience its nevver made deer more frightened or detered and I pee right off my stand.

I usually just carry an old gatorade bottle. You can paint it brown to minimize reflection.

I once peed in a scrape on my way out of the woods...

I knew I wouldn't be hunting there the next day, and my cousin was. I had nothing to lose by peeing in the scrape....an experiment, if you will.

Damned if he didn't arrow an 8-pointer over that scrape the very next morning.

Bottom line.....let'er fly.
