Hi Tom. Welcome to the forum.

Canadian residents don't need a guide to hunt WHITE TAIL deer in SK. Mule deer is Sask residents only so make sure you can tell the difference.

Hunting opportunities vary by zone. There are three broad classes of WMZ in Sask:
Farmland (generally south of the N Sask river);

Forest Fringe (generally north of the river as the famland gives way to the Boreal forest);

Forest (typically WMZ 60+)

Generally bow (compound or recurve) opens 1 Sep;
Muzzleloader and Crossbow 1 Oct. Canadian resident/non-resident rifle season is very limited, its only an option in the forest and forest fringe. In the forest fringe zones its only a 1 week season which opens the 3rd week of Nov. In the forest zones it opens opens the first week of November and runs for 3 weeks.

There's LOTS of Crown Land in the Forest Fringe and Forest (the forest zone is 99.9% crown land).

A good place to get started would be Narrow Hills Provincial Park.

Bonne Chasse!

C'est seulment bow, X-bow and muzzleloader.
