You can park off the highway. There are a lot of people who do it and it's not illegal. Just pull as far off as you can. I wouldn't suggest it if it is icy out but an early season with no snow shouldn't be a problem. Drive I-70 during the archery season and you can bet that 90% of those people off the highway are hunting. It tends to give easy access and a lot of people in one spot which makes for quiet animals and poor success.

***BS!!! A lot of people might be doing it and a lot of the troopers might be letting them get by with it, but there is absolutely no legal parking ANYWHERE in the US within the fences of an Interstate Highway other than in an emergency and hunting does not qualify as an emergency!!!!!! It's a Federal requirement under the Interstate Highway System that can't be superceeded by the states. NONE, NADA, ZILCH---Comprende?

I hate to tell you this but

I hate to tell you this but it is illegal to park on the freeway right of way. But as I said in my earlier post the Colorado Highway Patrol lets it slide, also since all of the hunters that park there are just day hunters they will have their vehicles moved before they would get towed.

Do you remember or even see all fishermen that used to park on the side of I-70 between Copper Mountain and Officers Gulch? You drive that section now and there are all kinds of NO PARKING signs on the side of the freeway.

Parking on the freeway right of way is for emergency parking only and not for hunting or fishing access.

I-70 Parking

So on my scouting trip the last two weekends I noticed many cars pulled off the interstate. The ones on the edge of the road were orange flagged but I also noticed several that were pulled well off the freeway 20 yards or more and they were not flagged.

It is as I said, that while

It is as I said, that while it is illegal to park in the right of way but the CHP lets it slide if you are parked far enough off. Now if you get a trooper that is having a bad day all bets are off. It also depends if a trooper has gone buy or not if the cars and trucks have been tagged.
