Hunting units mid state for elk?

I am looking into units mid state, just north, west, or south of denver or colorado springs area. Like I said in my earlier post today, all new to me. Next year will be my first year. If I hunt on punlic land on my own, will I be able to hire someone to help me get my elk down? Assuming I get one?

Elk are big, but not impossible to pack out by yourself. Debone, take the hind quarters, shoulders, loins, and backstraps. If it's a bull, skull, horns and cape add an extra trip. I'm a small guy, but in good shape, and I can pack a bull out in 4 trips. What I'm getting at is you could probably find someone to hire to pack an animal out but it may be more trouble than it's worth. Being a fireman you're probably in good shape, if you're not time constrained, make a few trips and enjoy the scenery.

How far N, S, E, or W from Denver / C Springs? Get a copy of the hunting regs to determine which units will be draw vs OTC.

Area 50 and Area 501 are good areas close to Colorado Springs/Denv er........there are plenty of OTC areas nearby as well.

I'd be willing to hunt with you next year as a hunting companion if you want to get with me and put in for your tags when I do. This way you can hunt with someone that already knows the area!

I think if you go just a little bit further west or south, you'll get into much better elk hunting.
