Hunting shelter

I'm sure you guys have some good suggestions for this as well. I'm tired of sitting in a tree stand all day, so I was going to build a little shelter.

This is what I'm thinking so far:

-It'll be 10' in the air
-The platform at the top will be round, with a radius of 3'
-Mesh netting will be wrapped around the platform to "hide" us better, but still allow us a 360 degree viewing

Any other ideas, suggestions, comments are appreciated!!

Our treestands for deer started out that way, then they got bigger and bigger and more elaborate. Finally ended up looking like an ice fishing shack in the trees. Ten feet up isn't all that high unless you're really close to your baitsite. And 3 feet dia, although more than a normal treestand doesn't give you much wiggle room if you get the cramps. You need railings to hang your mesh from but you have to keep them low enough to shoot over. And the railings also are a safety must so that you don't end up on the ground before you planned on going there. Thats why I'd think more about something rectangular, 3ft x 4 ft even and built in a stand of trees that hides your sillouette. Our first stands were built entirely from weathered 2 x 4's and we stapled burlap to the railings which were 2 x 2's. Only trouble with putting a lot of effort into a stand is that if the site is a dud, or it has to be removed after the hunt, you've done a lot of work for nothing.

Mine is a dual purpose, bear and deer. It is about 5' square plywood sides about 30" high and a piece of ply wood nailed above for a roof. for bear I use camo burlap I got at Wal-mart to go around for concealment I can see out perfect and the bugs stay out too I also have a slit cut in the front (towards my bait pile) to poke my gun out. and for the deer I just take down the burlap I have a pic posted of it on here somewhere. I like to be comfortable in my stand
I tend to sleep in it a lot Big smile

10 years ago, i was hunting Elk in the rockies. while chasing elk i saw a huge bear track close to a swamp, after many scouting trips i realized if i shoot this bear it will be my biggest bear ever !

so next spring i decided to give it a shot . i was hoping that no one got this bear last year ( the year i saw his tracks ) so i start a new baitsite near the swamp and hoped for the best.. few weeks later my camera cought a glimpse of this bear eating some goodies, i was soo excited to see him make it and decided to devote all my energy and time to make this bear mine .

over the next 3 weeks the bear was just too smart to fool , with fraustration building up and almost giving up on my dream bear i thought of doing something i never done with bears before,, build a a small shed and sleep in it until this bear make the mistake i've been waiting for him to make.

to make my story short i built a shed high on 4 evergreen and paint it with dark paint and then i got few fake old christmas trees i had at home and covered the small house with it and i also went to a hobby store and bought fake leaves and placed them on the shed as well and painted the inside of the tree house with dark paint to hide myself really well inside.
knowing that big boars will often disapear for 4-5 days before they come back, i decided to drink, eat, sleep in my new cabin for 6 straight days and nights.

so after finishing my dream cabin i left the area for 2 weeks and left plenty of food and came back to see that the bear was eating the bait the night before,, so again i stocked it with fresh bait and waited another 2-3 days and went back to the tree house and lived in it the next 6 straight days and nights.
although not knwowing that the bear was shot 2 days later by a group of guys,i will tell u that i had a blast living there and the games i spoted during my stay was UNREAL !

since then i've doneit 4 more times and got 4 HUGE bears from that tree house alone !!

do it u will not regret it ! but make sure it is well covered , but 2 days is not enough to bag this bear specially in the fall. i would recommend u go for the whole week cause in the fall the bears will start hitting baitesite once a week , and since u will never know when it will be the day this bear finish the full circle and back to the baitsite i recommend u stay for at least 5-6 days ! why bears do that in the fall ? because bears will roam their territory looking for mother nature fall food so they start a full circle around their territory and back to square one in about 4-5 days. that explain why this bear is hitting ur site once a week !

that' one of the many reasons outfitters offer 5-6 days hunt !

Okay, so I gotta ask... If you're in the shelter for days, how does one go about peeing and pooping to put it mildly? eye roll Surely you don't want that scent getting to the bears (and you don't want it trapped in your shelter either) Cry

Mrs ridrider let me tell u that i wasn't looking forward coming back to civilization after that week ended !

HeHe I knew u were gonna ask porka !
take as many plastic bottles as possible and use them and once full close the lid and store in a bag hanged next to the treehouse
the OTHER one u need to buy special bags u can find at hunting stores and use them and once done make sure u close it really good and store it next to the bottles,, these bags are made for hunting so no smell or anything will come out, so bears will not notice anything once ur done.but train yuorself to do it around noon when big boars are usualy in the shade snoring

for food u also need to buy special bags to keep food fresh and the aroma in or the bears might pay u visit while sleeping Laugh
make sure u take all the stuff u need a month earlier and store it in the treehouse, when u finally decide to start ur hunt , u take ur food and water with u .

I thought about the shed for u this year but if things going well why change ? i think building a shed right now will definitely scare these bears and turn them nocturnal again,, so why do this now ? i suggest u continue with what u been doing and build the tree house next year maybe 1 month before the season begins.

Yeah, I hate to rock the boat while we got them coming in, but there's no way I can take a tree stand again for more than 8 hours.

What if I get it in place in a week?
