The rut is reserved for bow and elk hunters. Just how Oregon does things. The bow hunters really appreciate not having 40,000 people in blaze orange tramping through the forest spooking the bull they have been stalking for 3 days.
Does anyone know why we in oregon cant hunt in the rut? I hate how our deer seasons are so early in the year.
Another very good reason is that Deer become like a Grouse when in Rut. They just get fence post stupid. Imagine a bunch of hunters, archery or bow and a buck in rut just a few yards away..........just standing there licking his lips or rolling his nose as he smells a good looking Doe. Take a shot, miss, take another shot, miss and then another.
This is one reason why they do not let us hunt bucks in the rut.
Over the years I have seen several elk and deer hides left in the woods by hunters and I have to wonder why they do this? I fully understand and agree about getting the hide off the animal as soon as possible to cool the meat, but why not pack out the hide with you and use it? As far as I know there are no state laws that require you to take the hide home, but to me why waste such a beautiful part of the animal? Some might think they have no use for the hide or it costs too much to tan....
