Does he have the landowners permission to be on the land? If not and i realize that this is going to open up a rather large can of worms have the landowner talk to him then if it happens again have him charged with trespass. Hope your on better terms with the landowner than your stepdad.
i think he should stay away because you will never kill that big buck if he keeps going around the stand cause when that deer gets within at least 1 to 200 yards from your stand and he smells the odors chances are that buck will never return until the smells are gone. he will come in time to time but it won't be within even rifle range so tell him to stay away from the stand.
There are still some who insist a scope is not needed for the type hunting they do, ignoring the advances of the last 150 years in optical sights.
