Hunting Problems

Ok what do you guys think I should do ?

My step dad knows where my deer stands are and he walks to them every day and takes his dog who loves to chase animals. The worse part is we had a monster buck under the stand a few times now. Now I have asked him to not take the dog there and stay away from my stands untill after season and he was tellin me he was. Today I found a Cig Butt 35 yards from my stand and some dog poop plus him and my step mom right there 10 ft from my stand with the dog running all around the trees. When we ask him again to stay off!!! He said no!! It wont spook the deer kuz its just like a coyote and u guys are over reacting.

Am I over reacting? Because I dont think I am.

Its a friend of ours land. Me and my Step Bro have been givin the permision to hunt there. We have been scoutin for over 3 months now and found the places we wanted stands so we put them there, he found out and wont stop goin there. Im gettin to the point where I dont even want to hunt deer this year because he takes his dog on all of the travle lanes the deer take to feed.

Depending on how often he takes the dog there, and are dogs a relatively "normal" occurence in the general (if not immediate) area it could actually work to your advantage. If the deer haven't fled, getting them accustomed to some residual human scent may prove a blessing in diguise.

But regardless this is a courtesy issue - you point blank asked him to stop and he didn't. Not very nice.

I know your pumped Zippy, because you have been talking about that buck for awhile, so your probably fretting a bit to make sure nothing distrubs the buck. That is understandable.

Your Step Dad and his dog might effect you, it might not. Certainly if he goes out there all day and raises cane, your going to have problems. However, unless he is a raving loony, this probably isn't the case.

Here are some suggestions:

- Both you and your brother go and ask him to not go again just for a few weeks while you are hunting. Is he hunter? If not then he may not understand the importance of this too you two. With two of you asking again, it might sink in that it is important.

- If he still wants to take a walk out there after asking again, then go for a bargain. For instance ask him to walk in the evening only, if your going to hunt the morning, or vice versa. That way you have it clear for you during a peak activity time.

The fact that you've had a monster buck under the stand a few times suggests step dad's not a threat, so long as he's not doing it while you're hunting. As for his theory about the dog poop, I have to disagree on that one unless the coyotes in your area eat Kibbles and Bits regularly. It may all smell the same to us, but animals can tell the difference. In human terms, homeless women tend to smell different than prom queens.

I don't know how close this stand is to your step dad's place, but it seems puzzling that he would keep doing this when he knows it displeases you. How long has he been your step dad? Sounds like he's marking his territory, if you ask me.

Well he takes the dog there every day and for about the last week or so i have only seen 2 deer a doe and a fawn. Plus my flock of 25 turkey that feed there are now slowly movin out and changin there feeding paterns. Yes he is a hunter and every day he tells me that the stands are in the wrong placs and he thinks i wont see deer.
Im just not liking this tonight im askin one more time then it gets personal.

The buck was at our other stand out on a big field. We found out this morning he also takes the dog up there too, which would explain why we went from seeing lots of deer to seeing zero. It's more or less like our concerns are not taken seriously.

Well we tryed to talk to him and we sort of got yelled at and told we dont do chores and we dont know what we are talking about hes not scaring the deer. So rather than blow up i did what i do best go scouting, I found a few good places. I just think im goin and pullin my stands down from my old spots.

i would be pissed..big bucks hate dogs..if anyone thinks taking dogs to a stand and smoking cigs and hanging around doesn't effect big bucks needs to quit hunting!! at best you'll shoot a fawn!
